My favorite band is Kamelot. So yeah, I like power metal and progressive. And rock songs given the classical treatment. Look up Vitamin String Quartet for some samples, and classical music given the metal/rock treatment. Look up "Vivaldi's Winter" by Dark Moor for a sample.

When Christian Älvestam left Scar Symmetry, he formed Solution .45, one of the best metal bands ever. The lyrics were written by Mikael Stanne and performed by Christian Älvestam and, contrary to Scar Symmetry's lyrics which are about futuristic and abstract stuff, are about more medieval stuff. Listen to the lyrics and see for yourself.

I used to listen to alot of really heavy metal like Death and Strapping Young lad, recently I've been listening to blues and other stuff. There is one thing that I would like to bring up which is Addicted by Devin Townsend, it's got some heavy riffs at the base of it all but it's full of things you would find in most modern pop albums, although there's no auto tune or any of that crap.

Hair Metal is not Metal, it will never be metal.

No one said its bad, no one said its bad because it aint metal, and no one is saying its not metal just because it sucks.

I think Cannibal Corpse sucks, but for sure their death metal.

I listened to these bands, and all i hear is hard rock.

It doesn't matter hair metal is fucking metal bands like motely crue and skid row are fucking it's a sub genre of music and yes I do know what I'm fucking talking about guess what metal and rock have evolved since the 80's but during their times they where fucking metal.

so is close mindedness and just elitist when it comes in terms of metal.

Their is a ton of metal bands i find boring or crap, i dont deny their metal.

Im not saying those bands are bad, not at all, their just not metal, why does it bother you that their not metal? Why do insist they must be a part of metal when their not? Why is it necessary for you to label these bands as metal when their not.

No those bands are metal music has evolved from the eighties but what they represented then was and still is considered metal it's a fact.
