Im becoming quite addicted to my Macbook now that I know where everything is and how to use all its features. I know blizzard games and CoD4 has mac support but is there any good reason why most developers arnt too interested in providng support for it?

I know I can run bootcamp to play games on the go but it would be much nicer if I didnt have to swap OS every two minutes depending what im doing.

If anyone has any ideas of what I can put on there since im going on holiday, need to make the most of the space on the HDD

Developers don't want to develop for the Mac for two reasons:
1. Apple's most popular computer (the MacBook) didn't have a separate graphics card until the current generation
2. They don't want to develop for a platform with <10% of the market. There isn't enough money in it.

That being said:
If you really want to play games and you already have bootcamp and XP, I'd just play a windows copy. It just isn't worth the bother and expense of getting a game for Mac, it's really not, and I say that as a long-time Mac user.

Okies.. ill stick to bootcamp. I thought apple got up to like 15% market share, well I remember reading that shortly after I got mine and thought that I got on the bandwagon early :)

Yup, it's right around 10%.

This is what amuses me by those Mac commercials. The fact that the PC is the corporate suit and the Mac is the fun guy but gaming belongs to PC, but Macs are really good for working on things.

You can play steam games on Crossover...
but most are kinda buggy save for the Orange Box.
But like everyone said, just stick to Windows to play games until Macs catch up

Because Steve Jobs doesn't take gaming seriously. They just don't care . This is a reason of their downfall.

There are old games like fallout that actually have Mac only versions (I use a mac which is why I use consoles for games.) As far as getting a game new Postal 2 is the only one I can think of.http://www.gopostal.com/store/ Linux too!
Yeah im exactly the same these days. PC gaming is going through a real dip.. Like in the past year or so there hasnt really any games apart from L4D that have had me shaking in my spaceboots

I believe the sales of an individual title are generally higher on the Mac proportional to home user base. This might have to do with lower piracy due to users having more money, and also the fact there aren't as many other titles to compete.

In contrast to both 1) and 2), I have long thought it would make sense for devs to develop *all* those games which are not very graphics intensive on top of crossplatform libraries. (This actually happens with some indie games.) I mean, why not? Not much more trouble if you do it from square one, and getting to sell to Mac/Linux crowds as well.

Blizzard must be making a decent profit off the Mac, since they do multiplatform with (relatively) graphics intensive stuff which requires them to spend on Mac-isolated rendering work. They have even included small features unique for the platform, like integrated Quicktime video recording; these are not crappy ports but full-fledged equal versions.

This is a pretty good resource:

http://www.apple.com/games/articles/

Aside from that, a lot of independent and freeware games are cross-platform, since sales on non-Windows OSes are usually so high. This [http://freeware.remakes.org/] is an excellent resource for such games, but keep in mind that the "mac" filter at the top of the screen doesn't work properly (it only shows a few games, when there are probably hundreds of games available for mac listed on that site).

seconded. i love my mac, but i can admit that gaming sux for it. i just dual boot. its the way to go. suck it up and pick up a cheap copy of xp, itll be worth it in the long run. yes switching back and forth sux, but its not the worst thing in the world.
