I'm looking for a game available on OSX that I can sink some time into when I'm burned out from work. I have all the major Steam games already (TF2, LFD) and used to play WoW some time ago. I'll be sure to get Diablo III and Torchlight 2 when they come out but I need something to hold me over. I was considering Starcraft II or Heroes of Newerth (DotA) but I'm open to whatever you guys can recommend!

Just to note I don't have any of the "indie" titles on Steam.

I started reading this and was thinking SC2. But seeing as you have already considered it. But I'm not too clued up on mac games, so I also have to mention escape from monkey island 4, built to run on OS9, simply because that the last game I played on a mac.

If you like L4D, I'd suggest Killing Floor, which is kinda L4D meets Counter Strike. I found it quite fun.

Add other point for Killing Floor. You could try Civilization 4/5 if your into strategy.

QFT. The Civilization series is one of the biggest time sinks there is. Once you get hooked you will keep on playing until your teeth fall out or something.

I would personally recommend the 4th installment if you can get it. In my opinion it is in every way superior to the 5th except for the graphics and the combat system. Whilst 5 adds a deeper layer to the combat system in the form of positioning and the switch to hexagonal tiles is a welcomed improvement every other mechanic is badly implemented with certain mechanics that made the 4th installment awesome outright removed for apparently no reason at all. If you want a more "flashy" experience go with Civ5. If you want deep mechanics I suggest you go with the 4th.

I also experienced numerous technical difficulties whilst playing Civilization 5. The game crashes constantly and turns tend to last upwards to a minute after reaching midgame due to some problem with the engine not being able to handle more than two workers without lagging the living shit out of everything. There's a fix which involves limiting the number of workers the PC and the AI can build to one but that's hardly practical.

Apart from that I suggest you look around Steam and see what you can find.

StarCraft 2 is a good choice though unless you want to invest time into it you'll most likely be in the bottom leagues for a long time and the matches there are barely ever fun.

Minecraft is also not a bad choice.

Plants vs. Zombie is a casual tower defense game made by popcap. You could give it a try, it's not that bad.

I don't know for sure but I believe Warcraft 3 and TFT are available for Mac.

The Marathon trilogy is free, fairly decent DOOM-style action.
Minecraft is a good, solid choice.
Check the App store for freebies, also, occasionally something GOOD will actually pop up.

Minecraft. Minecraft, Minecraft, Minecraft. Also look out for the Humble Indie Bundles, 'cause all those games are available on Mac.

Also, Minecraft. Go.

Bootcamp > EVERY GAME EVER

Except, you know, games exclusively for Linux, Symbian, unemulateable consoles, etc.
But alot of games.
