Ok, so about two or three weeks ago I spilt a yoghurt drink on my MacBook. That day it had trouble switching on but after a couple of tries it did eventually turn on. The next day I tried to turn it on and nothing happened. I assume this is due to a problem with the motherboard. As I am in china the only places with an apple store are Beijing and shanghai. I am in Nanjing.

What I intend to do is either get a completely new machine or get a new machine and move the old hard drive into the new machine. Is this a good idea? Or should I wait until I am near an apple store and take it to have it looked at there?

Definitely try and get it looked at before buying a new one. If you want to attempt to recover data then I'd recommend creating a live-linux USB of Ubuntu or something, which will let you look around your files & copy them, presuming it boots.

I'm sorry and a little ashamed to say that your second line makes pretty much no sense to me, also I doubt that I could find the right equipment here.

However, thank you for the advice. I shall see how long it will take to have it checked and hopefully they can advise me further.
