The Mac guy is too smug for my liking, but he probably knows how to party. The PC guy would be a liability socially, but would actually be pretty funny to hang around otherwise.
I second this motion.

I hate both OS's equally, but I'm too afraid to try Linux. I hate Macs because they treat me like a 5-year-old; I hate Microsoft because they treat me like, to quote Yahtzee, "a wallet mounted on the back of an entranced magpie." Windows is bugged, crashes frequently, and with the addition of Vista has become simple unto complexity because everything's way out of comfort zone for Windows veterans and is what I have dubbed "single-click friendly". I'm a gamer, however, which puts me firmly on the Windows User side of the debate, no matter how much I despise the tyrant.

Well, the commercials make me want to go to the nearest Apple store and beat the silicon out of every computer there, and they have also made me more partial to Microsoft as a whole than I would have been without them. They pretty much had the opposite intended effect on me.
Ditto. There's so much subliminal stuff it sickens me. The stuffy suit, the fat PC guy, the "hip, trendy" Mac. Apparently Mac had now flaws and doesn't get angry.

The commercials don't annoy me, it's when people make comments about how wrong I am to use what system I'm using and how superior the other system is.

I think of it as almost a friendly competition. PC even made a funny counter ad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi1se9rH7S8
I always knew microsoft was just one step from a namechange to skynet.

Theres like 30 androids in that commercial. Some of them are environmentalist androids, too. /shudder

I have to agree with a few of the previous, PC tends to bash Mac. However, the one that has the capability to bash, doesn't. Hmm.. interesting. I'd prefer to be friends with neither but if I *have* to choose then I'm going Mac. all the way.

If you have to extol the virtues of your product by making fun of the other guy instead of letting your product speak for itself that turns people off. It's the bully effect. Most people were bullied instead of the bullier, so that tactic tends to stick in peoples' craws. I'm probably going too psychological, but that's what ads are. They appeal to different parts of different people's psyche to make them want to buy things.

Also, I have a thing for understated underdogs so PC guy wins my heart.

So overall, cute ads whose purpose has been to spawn parodies of varying hilarity. Including "Im a Marvel/I'm a DC" from Random Guy and Random Girl on youtube.

Agreed. I even prefer Mac over Windows (I don't want to talk about it, leave me alone) but the commercials have gotten stupid. Mac does nothing but bash PC about Vista. The commercials were awesome, although admittedly one-sided, when they pointed out actual differences between the OS's and benefits of Macs, but now it just rides the "Bash Vista" wave

PC adverts focus on selling their own product, where Mac adverts seem more focused on... Making us not buy PC's. It's like the Tesco Vs Asda adverts in the UK. Tesco are all about advertising their shop, and Asda are all about slating Tesco. It's funny.

EDIT: Lol, silly me, forgot to answer the question. I find the character portrayed by Mac to be a stereotype of a 'cool guy', but really he comes off as a dick. The PC guy is funnier.

It was cute in the beginning, but after a while, Mac's adds become more and more desperate. And annoying.

Then PC totally crushed Mac with the kids saying "I'm a PC and I'm 8 years old" and the like.

Which is rather true because real life doesn't have a white sheet in the background.

Also Windows 7 looks great.
I'm actually bothered by the Windows advertisement with the little kid. I know they're going for the "It's so easy, I can do it and I'm only 8!" idea but it wouldn't be hard to raise a kid knowing nothing BUT Windows, especially at that age. Am I supposed to believe that she really made an educated decision among all the possible OS's and variations out there to stick with Windows at the age of 8?

Heck, I didn't know about other OS's but Windows until I was 16!

The Mac vs. PC commercials make me like Windows even more. In the end, Mac is ok, but I'm more of a gamer, so PC is the best for me. Plus the mouse that comes with the a Mac sucks.

They didn't start out that way, but essentially that's what they've become =(

If I can throw a little politics in here, it reminds me greatly of the now old Obama and McCain ads in the US. Obama ads were about what he was going to do and change and such, and McCain ads were all about how Obama's ideas were bad. I had a hard time finding McCain commercials about what HE planned to do, just as I have a hard time finding an Apple commercial that does anything more than bash Windows anymore. The commercials didn't start out that way, but it looks like they've become that way by now

I honestly have no strong feelings one way or the other.
I just for some reason could never get the hang of Mac though.

I just stick with windows because just about everything "works" with it.

Umm... Mac never actually bashes PC. It appears to be the opposite, actually.

EDIT: I wouldn't want to be friends with either of them. I'd rather chill with Linux, who would probably be a giant penguin.
Sorry, look to my display picture... I hang with the penguin.

I think the Mac ads are nothing more than 45 seconds of pure douchebaggery. Maybe it's just me. I'm probably not their target audience because I see the PC guy as a lovable doofus who is just doing his own thing, minding his own business when Mac guy comes along to antagonize him with his uppity douchebag attitude... oh wait... Did I just define Mac and PC users to a fucking T?

Microsoft comes along and makes the one "I'm a PC" ad (link up there somewhere^), which takes the higher path and doesn't mention Mac at all and what is the first thing Mac does?
