I pose this question in between bouts of screaming that my two abhorrent, and sick, younger sisters are putting the neighborhood through.
Partly because, I just enjoyed a moment of brief starvation. The point where there is absolutely no food in the immediate vicinity that can be readily eaten, i.e. no two minute noodles or pre-packaged snacks.
The only thing left on the kitchen shelves was a half-loaf of bread, a single onion, and various spices, in the fridge around a gram of ham, and a single cabanossi sausage.

I enjoyed a meaty and surprisingly fulfilling sandwich consisting of fried onion and cabanossi, seasoned, with ham shavings. I think it was toasted...

Anecdote over... so people, has there ever been a situation where you have had to concoct a meal, due to lack of actual ingredients, or sheer desperation?
And what was it?
I'm eager to learn some recipes...

Sorry...the name of MacGyver made the MacGyver theme play on my head an I couldn't focus on the thread...

( anyway...I never had to make food from scraps...I have friends that I can leech meals from.)

I got One..

I wanted some eggs, but no cheese or meat, so I went with sunny side up.
I needed some toast, but no bread, so I went with bagels.
Next I wanted butter for the bagels, but no butter, so I went with the next best thing APPLE BUTTER!!!

Top that mcGuyver

I made a cake without any of the needed cake materials. The frosting became more of a dunking thing, but it was still good. Probably shaved some years off my life-span, though.

Out of sheer desperation:a slice of ham in between two waffles, it sounded good at the time but...

I don't search well, but cheese on cheese action would never strike me as a made-up meal thing.
Nor would I consider searching for that, word for word, ...well maybe if I was desperately in need of- let's just cut that there...

My roommate and I kind of made it a habit for a while to make bizarre sandwiches to see if we could make one inedible. My favorite was bread with some nacho chips, spicy mustard, and ham. Delicious.

To be perfectly honest that is one of the ONLY threads I can remember that I created. :D

Mmm. Generally not a problem for me. The most I ever do is find as many different types of cheese as possible and put it between two slices of toast.

Some boyscout survival training. Afternoon meal is whatever you manage to find. While others starved themselves with leaves and berries, out team made mushroom/birch-leave salad with blueberries, toppled with some roasted perch and, a nice surprise, roasted snake. Add to this a little bit of sidedish in the form of ants eggs, fried on a pan in plenty of oil and with lots of salt. It's actually like crunchy, salty rice once you block out the 'yuck'-factor.

Snake does taste like chicken, FYI.

So yeah...
