Machinima and You

[The Paradigm]

What is your view on machinima? Do you like it/dislike it?

I think it's treason or something to talk about machinima without mention the popular web series, Red vs. Blue. I personally like Red vs. Blue, and I also enjoy Freeman's Mind and PMIL4D2. What about you?

Oh, and extra discussion value: do you think gameplay montages should be considered machinima?

EDIT: Not the website, just machinima in general.

Okay, totally cheating, but Valve's meet the team videos are technically machinima, so that. And no, I wouldn't consider gameplay montages Machinima at all.

Edit: wait, are you talking about the Proper noun Machinima, or general machinima animation?

I like... some of them. For me, it's really a hit-or-miss thing. It either makes me laugh uncontrollably, or I just find it flat-out stupid. I like the "Meet the *Left 4 Dead character*" series, and, of course, Red VS. Blue.

I love machinima, but the a crap that they're uploading now doesn't count as machinima. I don't care which way you slice it, some moron droning on over crappy MW2 gameplay does NOT count as machinima. I respect Hutch and Seananners and the others who have been doing this for a long time, and are genuinely good at the game, but the boosted 10th prestige noobtubers who have yet to hit puberty need to shut up and sit down.

You're not going to believe this but I just ranted about the comments sections of their videos in a "things you hate thread" let me just dig that post up.

I really hate the majority of the comments sections in videos posted by Machinima (the website not the video medium) the game highlights they post are good plus I like the machnimas that JonCJG (formerly DigitalPh33r) makes but the comments are always one of these

1. The game in the video sucks because I'm a fanboy of another game and this isn't that game therefore it sucks
2.This game is a shameless rip-off of this completely different game all because of one minor similarity
3. The guy playing the game in this video sucks and I could do much better, of course I won't bother to prove it just take my word for it.
4.The guy in this video's voice sounds "gay"
5. Please visit my channel and watch my vastly inferior camcorder recorded Halo 3 montages (this is something I hate in general in YouTube comment sections)

Other than the comments I like the stuff they put up.

I've tried watching a few, never liked them yet. There was one red vs blue I saw that was okay, but for the most part it just isn't funny to me.

Yeah same here. I have to admit though. My favorite machinimas are often the ones made by companies that made said game. Like sam and max's machinimas were funny. As were team fortress 2.

Red vs Blue was amazing. The "Meet The" series for TF2 was good too. I recently discovered/watched the Halo3/MW2/Beta Busters series and found them to be great.

I agree, Ross Scott is a genius, Freeman's Mind and his other series Civil Protection are two of the few machinimas I really enjoy and look forward to.

OT: I also like "Mythbusters" series for some of the games and no, I don't believe a gameplay montage is true "machinima", though I enjoy things like bloopers and what not.

That's the only reason Machinima stands out to me. I'd leave it without second thought, because of all of the Halo and COD machinima, that either stink or are show-offs.

Ross Scott's videos (Freeman's Mind, Civil Protection), and all of Xanatos's videos (GMan Squad mainly) are the reason why I love it.

When they are done well, they can be amazing. When they're done poor, they suck.

World of Warcraft had some amazing Machinemas, not to mention some funny as hell songwriting with machinema videos... than you Nyhm.

-Tales of the Past III... Just epic, and absolutely amazing, even being about WoW.*
-Illegal Danish 1&2... or just about anything by Myndflame.
-Nyhm's songs... Hard like Heroic especially.

Halo has had plenty

and others that aren't so distinct, but there are just so many.

It can be pretty awesome. I've seen everything from serious film (Jonathan Quail, Desolation) to comedy (The Heart is a Lonely Hunter) to something in-between (the recent Red vs. Blue). And it can be really, really awesome.
