Machinima Topic: Digital Ph33r is overrated.

Right, I wasn't really sure where to put this, so to be safe I put in off topic. Second, the reason why I'm doing this topic on this particular website is because I don't want to get flamed by 9 year old kids for being an asshole, where in this website people respect each others opinion. Even though machinima isn't really popular here, I thought there's bound to be someone here who's from the machinima community. Now that I have that aside, let me get started with why I think "th3 g0d of mach1n1ma" is overreated. We'll begin with arby 'n' the chief, and my first critisicm is that it isn't really machinima. Its just some guy playing with toys, who then uses microsoft Sam/Mike to voice the characters. It was actually funny in the beggining, but now all the episodes are made up of master chief just saying "lolololololololo" and then people give five stars and say that digital ph33r is "steven spielbierg" for machinima. And arby 'n' the chief movie in my opinion was absolutely crap and yet it gets 5 stars and awesome machinima movies like bloodspell (if you haven't watched it, I really recommend you should do) gets 4 stars. Now that I'm done with AnC, I'll discuss deus ex machina. First off, like AnC I thought the first 4 episodes were great, but then it started feel like a drag when watching them. And when ep. 6 came out, he just started ripping off spiderman 3, and he even stated how all the other action machinima were unoriginal, even though his was also. And after episode 8, he just completely fucked up the story. One of my biggest critisicms for digital ph33r is that he doesn't give depth for his characters. He stated how girls on xbox live were being mistreated, when he himself gave cortana from AnC as much depth as a spoon (pardon my yathzee quote). It really bothers how he gets more praise than creative directors like smoothfew, ross scott, darkspire and barron soosdon. Thats basically it, I want to see what people think of comments.(please)

Alright, well have you seen most people attempts at Machinima? They just whisper into the mic with the video recorded from their phone. He is definitely good, but his audience will be them 9year olds who will flame you to hell and back because they are the easiest to please.
Sure deus ex machina is slightly more mature but it is hard to keep up the quality of the first few episodes as everybody would flame any opinions about if he is slipping.
The main problem is because of the audience of Youtube the majority of people watching it will love it and so anybody that doesn't will get ten or so thumbs downs or marked as spam.

I do know of pregame lobby and I enjoy it, but I think voice acting needs a little bit of work.

Don't let the 5 star ratings bug you man. The stuff I've seen get 5 stars on youtube.... just, wtf....

Anyways, that aside, I like some of his stuff. I agree, Arby and Chief isn't machinima, but I personally think it's light hearted fun.

As for Dues Ex Machina, while I'm not a huge fan of it, I still find it interesting to see how he can use the maps and character models to tell a different story in the Halo world than the one you play the game through.

That said, I think that part of the reason Digital Ph33r gets more recognition and what not is also because he seems to give a damn about what he's doing. I can't say much about other big names in machinima out there, because I honestly don't watch much of it, but Ph33r's stuff is still done well for what it is, regardless of whether you like the content or not.

I mean, when I see some of the other stuff that people put out there.... good god.

It's like, I used to watch AMV's as a kid, but it shows when someone actually cares about what they're doing and when someone just... ohh... I dunno... plays some Linkin Park song over 3 minutes of un-edited Dragon Ball Z or something. Even if I didn't like the music or even the series in the AMV, I still recognized a well done video from a shitty one.

But I'll admit, he probably does have a lot of little immature fans who'd flame you for what you've said and do think he's the best thing since Jesus. But then again ya gotta keep in mind that it is Halo machinima, and Halo fanboys aren't exactly the shining examples of maturity and intelligence. No offense to any Halo fanboys out there (and don't confuse "fanboys" with "fans", cause there is a difference).

The only one I really like is Ross Scott. He actually pulls off some good stuff. From what I've seen, little else is very unique or any good.

I watched Deus Ex for a while, but the fact that it had very few voice actors. Actors how rather feigned their voices are to emulate characters, rather than acting as one.
In short I lost interest in the series, it carried on like a soap opera for me.
I never cared for the however humorous satirical Arby n' Chief.

Nowadays if I feel condescending I go to those videos just to read the pathetic comments, which is much more content-safe than 4-Chan while maintaining the ludicrously comedic amount of incorrect grammar.

PGL isn't that bad. I love the achievements that pop up (That's Quack-Tastic!)

Oh, and to Anarchemitis, Deus Ex Machina actually only had one voice actor. He never uses anyone else's voice.

i'm a halo fan but by no means a fan-boy. i like the PGL, matchmaking, and spriggs but his just aren't that good to be given all these raves.

His old stuff like "Master Chief plays Halo" were funny. I stopped watching his stuff later though, it began to loose its appeal.

I have watched all of the AnC and i agree with you. The first 4-5 episodes were god but then the series took a trip to shittytown.

If you want a great machinima just try the first of them all: Red vs Blue (i think it was the first one to create a machinima) or you could watch Pregame lobby.

Both are really great and you will have tons of fun.

All of the machinima people have recommended here, I've watched. I'm not looking for good machinima, I just think digital ph33r just gets way too much praise.
