I was kind of turned off by the strict realism the game world adheres to but I soon felt comfortable walking down the street after a few times playing through the game. The world reacts to everything you do and the police will act the same. For example, I walked into a gas station walked up to the cashier and pulled out my gun. I didn't point it at him just pulled it out. He immediately asked me to put it away and I responded by shooting him in the face and taking everything in the register. The store was deserted so walked out with no wanted level. I did see the cops respond but they didn't automatically accuse me. Moments like this drew me in and made the game that much more fun to play.

The driving was similar to GTA 4 so if you didn't like the driving in GTA 4. This game isn't for you. The combat is fun and challenging but it is sometimes hard to stick to the right cover as Vito will stick to the wrong spot and end up as swiss cheese. The hand to hand combat is really fun. Getting into fights is probably the best part of the game. At one point, I just ran around and got into fights for the whole ten minutes. The demo was good and I will definitely pick up the full game when it comes out.

Found it to be too similiar to The Godfather (1, because two was horrible).
STill pretty good, but found playboys to be a nice treat

I love it, and I am now even more hyped about the whole game than before.

My favorite thing to do is start a gunfight with the police while wearing a trenchcoat and hat, just because it's so badass that way.

Speaking of the police, why do they immediately know you and label you as wanted as soon as you headshot-kill one? If there aren't any other police nearby, it seems a bit weird.

I do like how if you kill the police in an area and steal their car, the car is labeled as wanted immediately. It's all those really nice touches to realism that make the game fun.

I played it, and the controls took a bit to get used to, but the combat was indeed fun. I particularly enjoy the speed limiter option for driving. It helps when I'm trying to drive like a normal person instead of like a maniac with a lead foot that never comes up other than to slam equally hard on the brakes.

I've only followed the mission path, and haven't goofed around at all yet, but the setting seems very conducive to fun times in that respect.

The soundtrack is a complete nostalgia trip. I dig it.

I'm a huge fan of sandbox games (obviously), and I missed out on Mafia 1. I think I'll be picking up Mafia 2, however. ^_^

I know right? They need to make getting wanted more realistic
Speaking of realism, did you notice that when victimizing African Americans they instantly assume you are racist? That really caught me off guard, especially since I am a black guy playing a white guy who is being called a racist for picking a fight with a random black guy. I kind of avoided getting in fights with black people just so they wouldn't call me a racist. I know it is the 50s but they could have cut that part out completely.

I just thought it was weird that the only gang members you fight with (in the city) seem to be black guys.

I like all the little touches that add to the feel of the game. I also like how fun it is to create mayhem. There is nothing like getting into a fistfight with random people on the street.

Yeah, I mean the game is called Mafia 2 but you don't see any Italians walking around with guns and expensive shoes? I hope the full game comes out and addresses this issue.

This demo was perfect in everyway!

Driving, fighting, police, gunning, graphics, gameplay, etc.

Definitely picking up the full game!

Did you notice that when they crouch down you can't fight them anymore? If you don't do the finishing moves, they will crouch down and you will be unable to hit them. Speaking of not being able to hit, why can't I kill the factory workers during the mission? I can kill 50 people on my way to the mission but as soon as I get there I can't harm any innocents. Lame.

they are not gang members. they carry guns because it was a very dangerous time to be black and they backup another black guy or girl in need. hell people carried guns for safety all the time.
When you try to buy food/drink when black guys are shooting at you, Vito remarks at how he needs to get the gangsters off his tail first.

I doubt the Mafia wanted to kill bystanders, just the people who slighted them. At least in the city, the police never state how you really look, so you can kinda get away with it.

I'm just after playing the demo about ten times and I loved it.
I only have two probles with it: The driving, it's too similar to GTA IV. And the fact that it's only ten minutes long.

If you have the PC demo, there's a trainer you can find on the interwebz that suspends the timer indefinately. A Mafia 2 staff member rather hilariously said that if you do that, you're stealing their game.

I don't really mind the driving, as I sure as hell don't expect cars from the 1950's to handle well at top speeds.

All the gang members (and thusly, all the people excluding the police that shoot at you while walking around in the city) are black people. Have you even played the game?

I loved it. The driving controls, however, are quite awkward, on PC at least

The demo was a massive piece of shit. The character controls were bad, driving beyond horrible, same shit all over again. I recommend Saint's Row 2 over this any day
I have the PC demo, and the controls were fine to me. The driving didn't really irk me much, because you spend more of the game walking around and shooting things instead of going into high-speed races.

Saint's Row 2 is fun, but it's in a different class in terms of realism.
