Hi guys. I thinking about whether to buy Mafia 3. One thing that strangely will influence my decisions is the weapons system. I have a hankering for a more realistic system much like the original mafia where you can only carry a few weapons and not much ammunition. As opposed to the sequel.

I can't find any information out on this. Is anyone playing and can update me?

You can carry two weapons, a handgun or smg in one slot or a larger weapon like a large automatic, rifle, shotgun, etc. As far as explosives you you start being able to hold only 2 hand grenades, Molotovs, and screaming hearts. Thought hat get upgraded as game progression happens.

You can only carry a sidearm and a long gun basically and ammo is pretty limited for both so hectic firefights can get interesting as you run out. Holstering the weapon has Lincoln shove it down his pants where it gets promptly whisked away to Narnia until needed again though, in case that might bug you? It was a bit jarring for me at first haha

The game is great by the way, its more focused on the open world aspect this time around instead of being a linear game in a sandbox environment like its predecessor was. Which I'm loving personally, I always thought Mafia 2's beautifully detailed city was wasted with so very little to do in it.

Thanks I'm excited to here that. Can you carry 2 pistols? Are their any short longarms (sawnoffs etc).

I think I can work with that anyway.

Just one pistol haha and there is! You can basically replace your pistol with a sawn-off shotgun or smaller submachine gun (you'll see at the arms dealer the "one-handed" weapons are the ones which take up your sidearm slot I think). I'm saying this under blind assumption though because I had my one handed SMG replace my pistol and I have yet to get the sawn-off, but its also labeled one-handed so I bet it will too.

In terms of weapon variety you have your pistols, submachine guns, rifles, shotguns and 'special' weaponry which are your rocket launchers and so by the way. Pretty standard stuff but the gunplay is very satisfying as every gun I've used so far packed a helluva punch. Blasting people point-blank with a shotgun especially is lots of fun.

I've started playing and it's pretty jarring. Especially when enemies do it too. Some guy in a singlet no jacket pulling a shotgun out of thin air. I don't like that. Enemies with submachine guns and shotguns you should be able to prioritise during stealth bit.

But overall I'm having fun. I've been using the cornell shotgun (the two handed one without a stock) and the 15-shot 9mm pistol. So I can easily pretend Lincoln has those hidden in his jacket. Then I only pickup bigger guns in combat snatched off enemies. Or I equip one going to a mission if I'm never going to conceal it. I made similar rules like this playing the Saboteur (I could only use pistols and small smgs).

I think with a few changes they could have made the weapons system better and more realistic. Have a slot for pistols. Another for smaller firearms, the sawn-off shotguns, smgs. Things that can be concealed. You can carry those 2 all the time. If you want a bigger gun you have to pick it up or pull it out of your car's trunk and drop when you pull a smaller gun. Or if you own it from the ammo van, you sling it over your back. But people will react the same way they do to a gun drawn if you have an M16 slung on your back, sometimes calling the police.

So when you know you're going to fight you could go in loaded for bear. But in other situations you'd rely on those smaller guns and being subtle.

Yes!!! That would be the most amazingly Mafia thing ever to do as well. I'm actually kinda sad now in hindsight that they didn't do it this way haha. Heck taking it a step further and adding the ability to wear clothes that allow you to conceal more or bigger weapons would also have been cool, its probably a pretty inane and useless thing to do but then again Mafia is known for its useless details, that's what makes the series so great for me, filling up your car and stopping at the bar after a day's work in Mafia 2 for instance does nothing for you, but I did it anyway and I loved it.

I also actually do what you do haha, I keep as small as possible arms with me for general going about and when I have to go hit a big target I lock and load basically. Walking into a bar and whipping out an M1 Garand to take down two guys doesn't really do it for me.
