This has been on my mind for a while. Have you ever noticed how being a mage in DA:O is like being a Jedi without all the respect?

Just think about it the Jedi have the light - neutral side, which is normal magic and then there is the Dark Side, which is blood magic. The Jedi always have the dark side trying to pull them over to an easy path to power and the mages have demons whispering in their ear about blood magic, another easy path to power.

Also, they both have people watching over them. The Jedi watch over themselves while the Templars watch over the Mages. The mages could even end up being like the Jedi if society become more tolerant of them and sees the good they can bring.

No not really.

The jedi are more closer to paladins in light armor than mages. Also the force is more like telekinesis and focusing this power to go silly lightning mode in the worst case.

Being a mage quite often includes studyin ones unique gift and find place in the world as a student of the art, researcher, healer, power crazed necromancer, summoner, shapeshifter etc.
Also the great balls of fire that the jedi (as far as i know) are not able to do.

Nah, there's very little here to compare. The mages have only ever been either tyrannical rulers (Tevinter Empire) or a segregated class of citizens kept out of sight except for when someone wants to use them as a weapon.

The Jedi are an order of protectors, aloof from society yet permeating it, keeping the peace and using their power only to help people. Except for when they turn bad and plot the downfall of galactic civilization, not through the influence of demons or anyone else, just on their own accord.

Also, demonic possession and blood magic are not at all the same. Blood magic is simply another school of magic, the same as the more common ones but under a societal taboo because of its potential to control and corrupt people's minds. It is rather like the dark side of the force, except not inherently evil, just often used by evil mages. Demonic possession is when a Fade spirit inhabits a mage and turns him into an abomination. It has nothing to do with blood magic, demons don't even care about blood magic.

So yeah, there's not much here beyond one or two passing similarities that you could find with almost any fantasy franchise logic.

Those are some...rather forced similarities. If you want "the same" but from a different place - the psykers in Warhamer 40K. Now they are exactly the same - both get their magic from an alternative realm, both realms are made up from the emotions and subconsciousness of humans, also both realms are the home of d(a)emons. Furthermore, d(a)emons can enter reality by taking over other people and mages/psykers are especially easy targets - they are essentially ticking bombs always facing the risk that some entity would take them over, wear them as a fleshy meatsuit and use them to wreak havoc in the real world.

Didn't mean their powers, I meant how they are portrayed.

I can totally see it. Both the force and the magic users are tucked away at some Hogwarts equivalent at a very young age, constantly supervised so that they don't stray from the intended path, while always being at danger of doing just that.

It's not surprising, really. BioWare writes what it knows or what someone before them knew.

I feel like Spectres and/or Biotics from the Mass Effect universe might be a more apropos comparison, and not just because Mass Effect is basically Star Wars sans lightsabers.
