The new set officially rotates in on friday, Rotating the Zendikar / M11 blocks out. I personally loathe the new set. Not just because most of my deck is M11, but the mechanics of the new set just don't sit well with me. I've always disliked using my graveyard to cycle through spells and activate abilities which is what most of Innistrad is based around. What isn't based on graveyards is a freaking werewolf, vampire, or zombie. A tri-fecta I am really tired of seeing now. I never though there would be a day when i would miss Slivers... So, what do my fellow magic playing escapist think of the new set?

I have a black zombie deck from legions ad onslaught and i hate the new set that should put it into perspective.
There inst one single dig up spell or enchantment i can use for my old school decks and it also rotates out two amassing sets that far outclass it.

I play vintage rules with my casual well competitive casual play group so there isn't one card i would use in this set.

My current deck is red/blue burn counter, but my REAL deck, my pride and joy, is my torment block Nightmare deck. Chainer, the dementia master should be a plainswalker.
I had a beefy treefolk deck in the morning tide set that really made me happy but they never reprint any treefolk.

at the moment i have a budget ad/tendrils deck i have the tutors just budget because no ancestral recall or black lotus, i have a casual white night deck a casual zombie deck based around life loss and discarding gempalms. Also have a g/r elf deck that ramps into primeval and eldrazi and then cast fling or burn spells to finish after the attack.
I play against a old school blue control, a pain in the arse dig up deck where on third tun he animate deads a angel that detroys a permanent is is a 5/5 flyer.
then he has a r/g/w burn deck with miraris wake.
Also another player has black vamps a discard deck with skullcage and megrim and other enchantments that do damage over discard and hand size.

Its a fun competative play group but as you can see from these decks there isn't realy any reason to invest in innistrad.

What was your favourite set btw mine is either the urza block or legions

I love the flavor of it. Gothic horror is awesome.

However, I would be pleased if they brought back Slivers.

It's interesting. I like when they do these very focused planes, Kamigawa and Lorwyn seem more coherent to me than Ravnica or Mirrodin, thats probably just me though.
I -hate- the card flipping mechanic. It looks and feels clumsy, and their solutions (card sleeves or Catalogue cards) seem impractical.
The rest seem fine, I also like sets that aren't too creature focused, and Innistrad seems to be that way. It seems hard to make a beatdown style deck with the cards I've seen.

I totally fucking agree about Vampires. They seem very un-Magic to me. I know we've had Sengir for time immemorial now but these new ones seem very...um, fuzzy, lame really.

ALSO
anyone here comment on Gatherer? Would be interesting to see some escapists over there. I'm Doitpow there as well if you're interested.

A few of my decks will no longer be standard, which is fine. I suppose that just means I get to beef them up and throw them into the legacy pile. I'm not sure what to think of the new double-faced cards. They're rather strange, why not just use the rotation mechanic again? It seems rather strange to either have to use a sanctioned substitute card or mandatory sleeves.

I do however like the whole transformation theme.

I'm looking forward to it. I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I'm definitely not upset over Zendikar going away. I might actually be able to get into standard again without getting beaten into the ground.
On the other hand, I will admit that I haven't seen a single card that is going to go into my commander or modern decks, so this might change nothing. It might have the Kamigawa problem that it is too focused and doesn't play well with other sets.
