Magic vs. Technology

Magic includes Ninjutsu, so magic.

Ultimately, Science is ever expanding it's horizons and achievements, but it's limited by "reality" while magic most certainly isn't and is limited by the whims of the user's creativity. Three examples:

1. Have to reload that weapon or refuel and prepare that flame-thrower after a nice round of slaughtering/roasting? Magic doesn't have that problem after a flicker of incantations:

2. Can you raise the dead, memories and persona intact? Put your hand down, no you bloody can't.

3. Wielding the most destructive weapon science can muster? Well Dr. Strange says it doesn't f*cking exist and neither do you.

Their is a saying from Doctor Who that goes thus:

"The highest form of technology is considered magic. Well the opposite it true as well."

To expand, I'm a big fan of the Volkswagen GTI. In newer models it has the option of a DSG gear box and i understand how it works, but I have described it as witchcraft. even thou the gear box in a formula one car is the one most likely to be infused with eldric power. no really, they can change gear faster than you can blink.

Magic no longer exists, magic was what we called any force we didn't understand.
Sounds like blasphemy to me. Drop him in the scorpion pit.

Magic and Tech are on pretty even ground in the Warhammer 40K Universe and many others like it. But for the purpose of fun comparison? Dr. Strange vs. Iron Man. Dr. Strange would probably win.
When every superhero in (Marvel) America fought against each other in Civil War, Dr. Strange refused to fight because it wouldn't be fair.

He's so powerful he's practically a plot device now.

Technology FTW, magic sucks, magic requires skill and time, while pulling a trigger doesn't take much

I choose technology.

As has undoubtedly been mentioned earlier in this thread, any sufficiently-advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. Hence a strong argument for the overall power of science being on par with magic.

The difference is that according to classical mythology, only very special, very highly trained people can summon pillars of flame from the sky or commit other acts of magic. Almost any yahoo can point an AK-47 or a Stinger missile (or their future-tech equivalents) in your direction and pull the trigger. Science works because you don't have to be special to reap the benefits. Science wins because tradition dictates that mages are special, but a few weeks/months/years of training can allow anyone to use a rifle/missile platform/aircraft carrier effectively.

I'm going to say technology because I've always hated Magic when it came to video games.

So much thinking, so little fun...

Considering that magic doesn't exist, the tech guys would win.

Assuming it does exist, the tech guys would win.

Go tech guys.

You can "Avada-Kadabra" all you want, we're still going to snipe you in the fucking face

And once we come up with computers that are advanced enough to cast spells, forget about it.

Technology can always be destroyed - magic can make something unbreakable/invulnerable.

If I had whatever runes are used to make a sword indestructible, and then tattooed my skin with them, then I've just gone ahead and won the war. Bullet-resistant man who can raise the bodies of the soldiers they?ve slain, conjure fire from the skies, and teleport inside of the enemies defences?

It?s a pretty done deal without much in the way of guidelines as to what 'magic' constitutes.

in my opinion both are even and eventually they kind of overlap, once technology allows us to teleport and magic can create golems (aka machines) the two really arent that different...but im hanging my hat up with technology in the long run

Now there is one rather extensive property of magic that is over looked her and vastly limiting. In most cases of magic, they have to be LINE OF SIGHT, however, technology, does not, to such extent this would favor technological for the pure fact that ION PARTICLE STRIKES don't need to be in the line of sight, and even if it needs to be guided on target, there are drones, and if need be Therm Optic Camouflage, so all they would hear would be "Nuclear Launch Detected," Boom goes the main base, and the Ghost laughs maniacally.

In a ono-to-one duel, it's hard to say, as both realms of magic and technology are limitless, no matter what spell one can image, there is most likely a technological counterpart. From the foresight of a mage, to the scouting drones and security field cameras of a techno-buff.

I'm pretty sure if it really came down to a full on "Balls to the wall" showdown between the two, there would be no life on earth.

I think the magic would win just because it's magic and can kill people in two seconds or less depending on how fast you say the words (or don't say the words depending on spell).

But then to confuse this thread I must quote Clarke's Third Law: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." How do we know which side is which after a certain point?

In the real world: Tech.

In fiction: Both are equal.

MAGITEK. Pyromancer cyborgs powered by soul reactors* anyone?

Soul reactor term trademarked by me.
Oh and btw:
