My weekend got off to a terrible start: i perchance the retail version of Magicka, in the hopes, that the said game will keep me entertained. I install it, play solo, and love it. Once i try the the multiplayer, the game, which had a terrible launch because of this... thing, shows me a selection of unplayable servers.
What took me aback, is that Magicka is a Steam game, yet has no Steam integrated server search, as the game did not appear in the server list outside the game
It is then, that i start to suspect, that the culprit is, as Steam put it, multiplayer CD key, which was to be, again according to Steam, asked after the game started, and no such thing was ever asked.
After digging through Steam's, and other, forums, i come to a troubleshooting thread, which states THAT THE "CD MULTIPLAYER" CODE IS TO REGISTER YOUR GAME ON THE FORUM OF PARADOX, and nothing else.
Followed by this discouraging news was the instructions on how to fix the damn thing, which included port opening, and firewall tuning, which worked for 2 times, after which it stopped to comply, and even fucked up my internet connection to a state of me not being able to use it for 2-3 minutes
My question here is: why not use steams(not so) good server serch, why do developers want to surprise butseks the end user so badly, as to not use that searcher, and force the end user to do all the firewall tweaks by himself?
having said that, i have to add that this is not a good way to attract paying customers, especially those, who want to leave piracy behind. i probably could have chose better some argue, but how was i supposed to know the multiplayer was still this bad after a year of it being out
have your selves a nice gaming weekend dudes... i know i probably won't >.<
