I'm working my through the DS version of Final Fantasy IV. There is a quest that requires that I return a Rainbow Pudding to Puddingway (one of the renamings of Namingway). So I'm grinding on Yellow Jellies. I'm fighting them in a cave called Antlion's Den, in an area where the only enemies that show up are Yellow Jellies (x4) and Adamantoise (x1). I've been at this for weeks. And I still haven't got the Rainbow Pudding. It does drop from the Jellies and I don't have to do anything to unlock drop potential. I'm getting frustrated at this grind.

So... in order to make me feel better about my current grinding situation, what is your personal worst grind that you've attempted... completed?

Despite my current situation, I'd say my worst grind would be the Blitzball grind in FFX for Wakka's Ultimate Weapon and Limit Breaks.

EDIT: Just so everyone knows... I was grinding the pudding WHILE posting... AUTO-Battle.

Usually I have very little patients for grind and will usually say fuck it half way through. The only time I do it willingly is in DQ8 because it goes relativity quickly.

The worst would be the time I tried to stay in the first forest in Pokemon Sapphire to level all my pokemon up to level 15 for the fist gym leader.Honestly I don't know why I did it and again half way through said fuck it and went on.

Maple Story. As a whole. I remember grinding the crap out of the ant tunnel for no reason. Except I was actually having fun for some reason... I never got bored of the grind.

Pokemon LeafGreen. I had to level up my pokemon before I stood a chance against the Elite Four. I had to get them to go up about 5-10 levels and I spent so much time in Victory Road.
I also sometimes grind for money. I managed to get 200 gold nuggets in that game from the Team Rocket guy in Cerulean City and in Fable I'd bet a bunch of gold on the card match game.

But that grind in pokemon was awful, I'm pretty sure I would've given up but I really wanted to beat that game.

Getting Loremaster and the Seeker in WoW was probably one of the worst grinds I've ever put myself through. In Legend of Dragoon I got Dart to level 10 in the first forest and subsequently rolled through the game like it was absolutely nothing while doing all the side quests. There are a few others but I can't remember them right now and that bothers me greatly.

I once spent 14 hours on WoW trying to find a certain loot item. Turns out I was killing mangy wolves, not rabid wolves...and this was before I had questhelper or the ingame thing blizzard now has.

EDIT: Go for Insane in the Membrane Achivement and title in WoW. You'll hurt yourself before it's over. Only ever seen ONE person with it.

Yay! Finally got the pudding! Took 25-30 clocked time in game... now... what was I suppose to do next? I guess I hadn't really thought about that in so long that it now escapes me.

I would have to say Lineage 2. Just...Lineage 2. So much time wasted.

In an non-MMO I would have to say Final Fantasy 12. There are so many ways that game encourages or downright forces you to grind that it just becomes obscene. Fortunately you can automate the combat, but seriously...wtf, Square?

Go grind tails. The best tails drop from only one specific monster, that are only in one specific room, in the final dungeon on the moon. You will come to hate Princess Puddings and all they stand for. >.<

Bring lots of Alarms, healing items, and get the Treasure Seeker augment, which will increase the drop rate from 0.2% to 0.4%.

OT: ^That is the worst grind I've ever done. And while I succeeded in getting two tails, I still haven't succeeded in getting the rest of the tails. But it's totally worth it, especially in New Game+.

I spent a good chunk of time levelling up all my characters in FF13. I'm talking potentially days worth of time.

I look back and I don't regret it at all because it made the storyline bosses even easier - but there were jellies involved. And I was calling all the behemoths 'doggies' cos they run funny.

I had to amuse myself somehow :(

My most memorable grinds:

FFVII - Killing magic pots in the final dungeon in order to reach level 99.
Oblivion - Casting magic of each type over and over again in a hotel room.
Ninja Gaiden 2 - Not really a grind but, getting past the first two levels on Master Ninja mode.
BoF3 - Learning every skill from every Master (more planning than grinding, but still a whole lot of grind).

I have to admit, the title of this thread made me lol.

I remember back when I played WoW you had to grind a fair bit in the middle levels. One of the main reasons I quit.
