Basically, Intel just released the Sandy Bridge processors, and that's a problem. I'm very close to upgrading, and I was going to get an i7 950, but now I'm having second thoughts... I've heard that they will be discontinuing LGA 1366 for LGA 2011 in Q3, and that the 2600K Sandy Bridge is 2-5 times better than the 950. I was hoping to build a rig that I wont have to majorly upgrade for a good 2 1/2 to 3 Years.

So here's my problem. The LGA 1155 boards are practically obsolete, to the point of not even supporting Triple Channel DDR3, but the processor is so much better, but then the LGA 2011 boards will make the LGA 1366 ones obsolete, and the processors annihilate both the i7's and the Sandy Bridge, but I cannot wait until Q3 because I need to upgrade now, for various reasons. =[ What should I do...

The specs of the Computer I was going to build

i7 950 @ 3.06 GHz
Rampage III Extreme
6GB Corsair Dominator GT Triple Channel DDR3 RAM (2000 MHz)
Zalman CNPS9900MAX Heatsink
EVGA GTX 470 SuperClocked /w 1.2GB
2 x 1 TB Seagate Barracuda HDD's
80GB OCZ SSD (For boot)
Corsair MX 1000W PSU
Coolermaster HAF-X Case
Samsung Blu-Ray + DVD ROM Drive

If I go Sandy Bridge I would swap the:

i7 950 for: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-core-i7-2600k-unlocked-socket-1155-sandy-bridge-quad-core-34-ghz-8mb-cache-95w-retail

Rampage III Extreme for: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-p8p67-deluxe-intel-p67-express-s-1155-pci-e-20-(x16)-ddr3-2200(oc)-sata-6gb-s-sata-raid

Dominator GT RAM for: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-(2x4gb)-corsair-xms3-ddr3-pc3-16000-(2000)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-9-10-9-27-165v

Please help, I really need it. =[

Ummm, what video card are you going with? Hard to tell where the bottleneck will be in that system without knowing your video card.

Shit, i completely overlooked the card... I knew i was missing something...

EVGA GTX 470 SuperClocked /w 1.2GB, or an Asus HD 6870 OC /w 1GB. Probably the EVGA.

I guess in that case, I would just go with the i7 950. That's still going to make for a pretty kick-ass rig, but then you won't be paying top dollar for bleeding-edge technology. I mean, with the new technology coming out, the i7 can be got for under $200. Are you really going to notice the performance boost from the faster processor? Probably not so much.
