Okay so I've been having this problem for awhile now, first my Steam went (can't access Steam Store or Community) and now I can't log onto MSN and I have no idea how to fix it and it's too late at night to call someone so many someone here can help me. When I try to log onto MSN it gives me this error code "80048820" and then when I click "repair" it says my Proxy Server and Key ports are whats wrong. The thing is Mozilla Firefox works just fine but IE can't connect for some reason, can anyone help me?

Reboot your pooter. failing that reset the connection with the router - pull the plugs then put them back in. === turn it off and on again
Failing this, check your firewall, sometimes they like to reblock everything and not tell you
Failing this...its 'late at night' go to bed its probably the internet...may I hazard a guess...you're with virgin media?

No, I'm with Eastlink, and it's not just the internet (I wouldn't think so) the Steam thing has been going on for a couple of days now

EDIT: It says I can't sign into MSN because of my Internet Exlorer's failure to connect to the internet and to check it's ability to connect to the internet, soooo how do i do this? How do I fix it? Remember, Mozilla Firefox works just fine, also, I FUCKING HATE IE! IF IT WAS UP TO ME I'D DELETE IT FROM MY COMPUTER!

Pray to different god

If that doesn't work, Uninstall programs and then reinstall them.

Sounds like you have some port/proxy issues. It could be a router misconfig as well I suppose. Try looking for a way to reset your router to factory/default settings, and if that doesn't work, perhaps go through and open your computer's network ports. So far it seems like some programs are working just fine, while others are being blocked.

The rest of steam works? Just can't get to the store or community pages? Yeah its something to do with the router, or as Neronian said the proxy settings.

Some applications direct their connection compatibility via other browsers than your common default. Have you seen if Internet Explorer can connect to the internet?
If it can't, then I've seen that before. Ensure the settings are correct so that it can connect properly, restart your compy and it should work.
If it can, then keep askin'.

When you say router, do you mean my wireless one or my Modem? Cause even when I unplugged my wireless router and just used the modem (so no Wireless connection) the IE still wouldn't work

What are the "correct" settings? Mind helping me with that one?

Tools>Internet Options. Connections tab, ensure Setup all looks proper and functional, and look into the Settings of each program which requires an internet connection on the list on the left side.
