For the most part, I agree with you. Majora's Mask is the best game I've ever played, bar none, although the sense of rush and urgency you describe really goes away when you figure out how to slow down time and more than triple the length of a three-day-cycle. I've heard good things about Mr. Mosquito, too, though I've never played it. But then you finish by saying "games like Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter are in short supply."

My reaction? Thank fucking God.

An interesting coincidence that in the same column where you discuss the best game I've ever played, you also mention the worst game I've ever played. Again, bar none. I'd elaborate on it, but then...
I already did. http://www.giantbomb.com/breath-of-fire-dragon-quarter/61-1273/user_reviews/?review=7915

Might get into Majora's Mask when I get my N64 hooked up again. Though I wonder if after all this time the saves still work.
As for Mr. Mosquito, I'll pass. I've already had my fun of being a pest in other ways.

Majora's mask is the strangest Zelda game there is.

But I wouldn't consider it difficult. (I played Master quest not too long ago though, so perhaps that's influencing my judgement of it.) Just... Different. - If you don't understand the way it works, you'll have a hard time with it.
It also has a few rough edges suggesting it was rushed.

Then again, since it's closest relative, Ocarina of Time took 3 years to make, perhaps that's understandable.

On the whole, it's a very impressive game. I can understand why it doesn't have more mainstream appeal though.
Then again, that doesn't stop me wanting someone to pick up the concept it started. (I love time travel.)
