So I've been checking out everything for the new Devil May Cry coming up I-don't-know when, and have also read a lot of the complaints about the direction the new DMC is going. So, fellow Escapists, let me ask: What will make or break this new game? What MUST be present in this game for it to succeed? I personally think it'll be the combat system. DMC has always been about style-based combat, and as such, needs to flow. If that is not present, then the game is dead in the water, if it is, it has a chance. What do you think?

I think it'll be a great fighting game, it just can't not be, it's Dmc for fucks sake. I don't like the new Dante though.

It's going to be awesome. It's DMC. Regardless of what Dante looks like. The majority of the game will involve you being improbably awesome turning demons into pin cushions. That's all you need.

It needs combat that's up to snuff with the previous two entries for me to buy it new. As is, it looks like it could be fun, but it doesn't look like Devil May Cry.

Considering the developer in charge and the recent (exceedingly overdue) announcement that it would only run at 30 frames per second, I doubt it will be anywhere near as good as its predecessors, but my final judgement is reserved for when I actually play it.

The combat needs to be at least as quick and fluid as DMC4. No doubt it'll be stylish, but as long as it's not style over substance, I can overlook the questionable design changes. Difficulty too, the series has always prided itself on how gruelling it can be to players, it would be a shame if that stopped here.
