Because women are very vain creatures? Look at all of the products in general, make-up or not, that are intended for beauty care. Women use all of them.

I only wear eye liner, mascara and eye-shadow, is that okay?
I'm allergic to lipstick and concealer makes your spots worse.
Even if I wasn't allergic, I wouldn't wear it because your hair sticks to your face and you leave smudges on cups.
I have a theory that the more make-up you wear, the lower your self esteem is.
I'll disagree with the last part. It's like saying the nicer you dress, the worse you look.
I know plenty of girls who wear just a little makeup to enhance their features. One of them, for instance, uses just a dash of red lipstick and it look great on her.

PS, the eyeliner's really working for you.

I just want a logical answer instead of getting the old

"It makes me feel better." thing...
Why? If it makes them feel better, leave it alone. Girls have just as much right to feel good about themselves as anyone else and by any means they feel necessary. Whether that means they choose to wear makeup or not, just leave it alone.

I wear make up because I look bad without it. That's pretty much it. Don't get me wrong, I don't wear make up round the house and I don't wear it if I'm just going to the supermarket with my mum or something, but I do wear it pretty much everyday. Here are some pics of the transformation:

Don't judge my hair. It rained on me earlier D=

And this is a typical, average girl make over, unlike those blatantly professional make overs shown earlier
That's... a really huge difference. All your spots went poof.

That's why it's a theory, haha. I just feel like some girls are too scared to let their natural beauty shine, so they want to hide behind a face of make-up.
My brothers girlfriend is naturally very bonny, but I rarely see her without make-up.
Mind you, all these stupid glossy magazines make a song and dance if a celebrity dares to venture outside without make-up.

all i see is that your blemishes went away. if you didn't have them then you would have no reason to wear make up. and by the way you look really good in those pics. i hope that didnt come off as weird.

It's done for the same reason we wear clothes in modern society in temperate climes. Reasonably, there's no purpose to my wearing anything except shoes and a backpack when I go to class. My clothes provide no support, and no practical purpose. Women, maybe, should wear bras (since they do have a function), but the rest is modesty. The rest is that we don't display our true selves to each other, for fear of what people would think of us.

We minimize our flaws, and accentuate our strengths, the same thing happens with makeup. If you're fat, you wear loose-fitting clothes. We all put forward a persona of who we would like the world to see us as, especially when it comes to physical looks. The girls who don't wear makeup aren't the ones who "don't care", they're the ones who have been shown or told that they're attractive without it. They're catering to a different audience, but they're still hiding behind facades as we all do. Women wear makeup for the same reason you don't take your shirt off in the middle of class: they don't want their imperfections to be seen.

Right, or wrong, it takes a lot of trust to show someone your real appearance, your real personality. The time you're likely to see a girl without makeup is around the same time as when she'll see you completely exposed to her. I've only ever seen the girls I've dated when they weren't wearing makeup was when we were already close enough (and trusted each other enough) to be completely honest.

Ohhh I hate it when they do that. Not to mention that the Photoshopping on the picture is almost always obvious, and the article that accompanies it is usually summarized "OMGOMG she liek went out w/o makeup lolllll".

On a side-note, it says a lot of good things about the Escapist that I can say someone looks good in a photo without someone going "LOL PERV"

I remember when they took a picture of Kerry Katona at her door collecting the morning paper in her pyjamas...
"OMG, she doesn't wear make-up to bed and wake up glamourous like they do in soaps!!"
x__X
Apparently it classes as news.
Anyway, a pervy comment would be something like, 'I have a special folder of your pics :p' surely? XD

To be honest, I do have a specia--- sorry, I was miles away.

I love it when those braindead editors discover that life isn't quite like Desperate Housewives.
Same goes for doctors expecting their hospitals to resemble the one from Grey's Anatomy.

Yeah, my main problem at the moment is my bad skin. I just use some foundation to smoothen things out. It is possible for girls to wear make up without looking trashy and overdone =D

I know right? Now you can understand how even though you may think a girls wearing no make up, she probably is ;D

I wear make up every day. I'll cover my spots if I'm spotty. I wear mascara because my eyelashes are so pale they're almost invisible. I wear a dash of dark eyeshadow in each corner because I like the effect.

I wear it because I want to look nicer. The same way a person would wear nice, clean clothes, or style their hair. I want to look attractive, because its the opposite of looking ugly.

Some people NEED makeup, like my mother, for example. She wears just about every cosmetic product ever made. Because she looks like a hideous goblin without it. She's a natural ginger, giving her a pale blotchy complexion on her face, invisible eyebrows and eyelashes, and she has suffered with terrible acne since puberty. I'll be brutally honest; its really not a pretty sight. She puts make-up on and takes YEARS off her face, and is able to leave the house looking like a human being. A friend once saw her without her makeup, and at first didn't recognise her, and then remarked that she looked really scary.

Okay, not all women wear it. I don't wear makeup because it feels heavy and it's high-maintenance.

But more women wear it because of pressure in society. A man, so long as he is either physically powerful or financially secure--can be respected. But everyone bases their first judgment of a woman on her face and body. It is a judge of our femininity. Just like physical power and financial security are now a judge of masculinity.

And it DOES make some women feel better about themselves. Good grief. Not every woman is bursting with confidence about herself. And women are subjected to far more in the realm of physical scrutiny--especially as we get older and our bodies mature. The point of make-up is to make it look natural. If a woman notices a difference when she puts on make-up, then that is her business. If she feels she looks better, then it's not really anyone's place to judge (unless, of course, she wears so much that she looks like a clown because that's just trashy). For women, it's more about confidence. It's a subconscious pounding women take from a very young age because every woman on tv is airbrushed and photo-shopped to look "perfect" because that is what The Man has decided that beauty is. And what The Man decides, society takes up the banner.

You're naturally pretty ^^
If you're worried about spots, avoid foundation for a while because it blocks your pores and buy some skin cleansers. I recently spent almost £30 on crap for my face. Skin masks, facial wipes, some stuff in a blue bottle that smells funny, spot cream...
Witch, Dove and Simple are all good options.

Ever heard of peer pressure?
Okay. So women are vain and weak-minded. I could have told you that. The two go hand in hand.
