Hello and welcome to Thread 1 of the Make Your Own Game series, new thread every 15th of the month.

This thread is all about your MMOG, or Massively Multiplayer Online Game. What's your idea for a MMOG? The only rules are: it has to feature direct interaction with at least 100 people per server, it has to feature a create-a-character, and it has to have some sort of "party" system in which players can group together.

Other than that, feel free to express your ideas on your MMOG.

Mine would be a sci-fi/fantasy MMOG which pits two races of humans over the domination of a planet big enough for one race. The player can pick between two factions, the sci-fi, tech faction which were the Earth humans until they were forced to flee from Earth after its destruction. This faction would primarily feature ranged classes with futuristic guns and technology.

Or the native humans, who are forced to defend themselves after being forced off the planet by the Earth humans. These humans are more akin to classical fantasy, with mages, warriors, and archers. Gameplay would be a FPS, with an option for a traditional 3rd person view. Firing and reloading would be handled like traditional FPS, but with abilities activated using hotkeys. Spells would be aimed much like a gun.

MAG, except with more players.

Remember how BF2 could have 64 players per server? Just boost that up another 36 or so. I'm sure with todays hardware capabilities it is a possibility.

Oh, and commanders. Bring those back. It was so fun just sitting in a corner with your map pulled up launching artillery strikes for the entire match.

RDR, but you and a tonne of mates can 'raid' towns, forts and eventually...

HEAVEN!

EDIT:
What would the archetypes be though?

Long-Ranged but squishy damage-dealer?

I would, but The Old Republic is already being made, so my ideas have been stolen.
Otherwise, I'd say a Starcraft MMO.

An open world like Saints Row, GTA or Red Dead ... but set in historical medieval times.

No healing potions (but chiurgery), no monsters (just bandits / rivals / kingdoms) and so on.

Mud and hunger are your enemies, and your sword is your best item! Huzzah!

Probably something like an MMO version of the X series. Space sim/space shooter were you could get bigger and bigger ships by doing missions or attacking enemy bases. Team up with buddies in a squadron or build a base to pirate others.

Basically like Eve except you get a lot more control over your ship and can man the turrets etc on the larger vessels.

Zombie survival
This would be pretty cool, allow me to elaborate.

Classes

You could have:
-Soldier: Offensive class (faster reloading, more accurate, eventually c4) which can gather supplies.
-Engineer: Defensive class (booby traps and making cover, and eventually machine gun nests) to secure the supplies
-Doctor: Support class (healing, suppression and eventually, steroids) to heal troops and administer the supplies more effectively

Not sure what other classes, or how they're balanced...

Gameplay

You set off in a town, killing zombies and looking for a safe house (clan, sort of) to defend. Newbies give any safe house they join an all-around buff, so older players have reason to accept them as residents. Safe Houses have a maximum number of residents, but you can upgrade, decorate and even build a "religious idol" which gives all of your residents a buff of a certain kind (better offense, quicker defensive building, and others) all of which cost certain resources.

You need to gather certain amounts of supplies, and Soldiers give a good combat effectiveness buff to anyone raiding supermarkets, hospitals, etc. You have to return within 5/10 minutes (depending on the size of raid) or else the zombies swarm you and you ditch all supplies you gathered to make a run for it.

From there, you escape and head back to your safe house, the zombies follow you and it's up to the Engineers to have constructed defences in the maximum amount of minutes the attackers were allowed for the raid. The engineers repair doors, med-stations and ammo boxes, the soldiers man the mounted machine guns and other defences.

The doctors are all-rounders, needed in both case scenarios.

Other
Theres a Safe place, a strict fortress named "Ominous", one that you start off in, realising how oppresive it is, you set off to make your own. You can go there at any time, assuming your house isn't raiding or defending, to trade in your resources for weapons, safe house upgrades other resources, recruit new residents, chat and challenge other safe houses.

The PvP works by either going to Ominous and challenging either players or whole safe houses. Challenging players, you go into a little underground pit and duel them for resources, experience or fun. Challenging safe houses, works by racing them to finish a raid.

The resources are:
-Food: Needed for all bargaining, gained by all raids.
-Meds: Needed for upgrades (guns and armor), when equipt gives Doctors a passive buff, gained from
hospitals
Munitions: Needed for new weapons and defences, gives Soldiers a passive buff, gained from military zone
-Steel: Needed for upgrades (defences and house), gives Engineers a passive buff, gained from factories.

Mount & Blade, where it isn't just setting a single battle, but playing with your mates in the single-player, battling other players, raiding villages and taking over the entire map >:3

Beat me to it... at least 12 more months.
Damn ninjas...they're everywhere!

But seriously, if SWTOR has space combat and good PvE, I will never need another MMO.

Why doom it from the start? I'd sorta like to see a Modern day mmo, but not all gritty and brown. Something colorful. You know...I want Pokemon. I really do. I don't even play Pokemon games but I think the concept is ripe for a great mmo.

Heh accepted, but the people I ran with were the only reason why I played for as long as I did. The game wasn't that great in and of itself, but it was the community which made that game worthwhile. Sure when you have a ton of people you're going to have a fair share of idiots and nuts, but overall it was what made the game.

My idea of a MMOG? Well, it would feature warring factions similar to how MAG works, only in a more dynamic faction with shifting territories. Another possible way to portray this is to have warring factions that are entirely player-based, instead of set factions, similar to EVE Online.

The gameplay will be your typical First-Person shooter (Balanced weapons and all) but each team will have a commander that will play in a RTS style. The commander will be able to place down buildings (Base building) in which the players on the team will need to get working, possibly an designated engineer class for that purpose. The commander will also have to research tech for better weapons and equipment.

Given that the commander is extremely important and that big maps will allow for hidden bases to be constructed, the commander will be in an armored vehicle, in which both teams will have an objective of destroying it in order to win.

A Dune MMO, Blade Runner MMO or a Transformers MMO(1st Generation). In that order.

Think about them ideas for yourselves.

That is all...

Every time you staid buff i want to slap you i the face. Zombie Survivals should not have buffs. If you get a newb in your safe house then you get a newb. The "Buff" can be he has a pistol and can help out. As for your classes you need to make more then 3 or have none. 3 classes is too small, the solider might be great at combat but recon would fall flat when everyone holds shotguns. Engineers is a nice board class in it's own, holding up the safe house's defenses, materials, and electricity is just a bit of a mind game. Meanwhile doctors... actually that's probably the only class that you can't say much more about then "he heals people".
The problem with classes is that it kills the survival part of the game. If your not in a group you will die eventually which in a zombie survival might not be the correct case. If you just have to worry about yourself, you can do a lot more.
No classes, instead everyone is a normal person with basic skills and attributes. You can level up your skills by practical experience or books. The hindering feature is that books, materials, and ammo are hard to find.
Nice big map, little amount of people, and let the games begin.
