So I was playing Half Life 2 for about 5 minutes earlier on, I'm currently on the mission in which you are forced to drive around in your gun-infused go-kart, then run over helpless, spawning, giant bug creatures.

I had started a saved game point (and had last played the game about 3 or 4 months ago) and had no idea where I was.

Screaming helplessly, I was hit and destroyed by Roller Balls and Giant bugs, alike, while in the meantime I had no idea where I was going or what I was supposed to be doing.

Then it struck me; This game is fantastic and has the most atmospheric and entrancing levels in gaming, with a storyline so prestine and almost flawless graphics (for the time). If they had added in a sandtrail, or map marker feature - wouldn't it be a whole lot better?

Also, if they have done this and there's a way to enable it or something (I don't want a mod), then could you please tell me as I would really appreciate it.

So, Escapist; What would you do to make a great game better?

Give Fallout 3 better shooting mechanics, and let us fast travel to and from indoor locations.

Give Fallout 3 more music on the radio. It has about 5, and it's that or silence.

Give Borderlands some decent singleplayer features.

Half Life 2 is my favourite game. Frankly I think the way they could have made it better is if they had made the combine roam around on...

Saint's Row 2
-Bring back the Robbery and Hikacking activities from SR1

-Larger selection of hair doos

Earth Defence Force: 2017
-Bettter vehical controls and graphics
-Online co-op
-More "dino mech" related missions
-Even more giant bugs and robots won't hurt either

F-Zero GX
-I like challenge, but does a racing game really have to be this hard impossible?

I agree with both, but thankfully you fallout problem is easily fixed on PC. My galaxy news station plays a little over 100 great period songs. Several by the same artists already in the game.

Make it so sniper rifles in CSS aren't 1 hit kills unless they're headshots.
Also, make it so you can relocate skill points in Diablo 2.

Ninja'd. Better animation would have added a huge amount for me too, it regularly breaks the immersion it tirelesly builds in seconds when people kind of skate around, and don't look too solid in general. Metal gear solid levels would be a little unrealistic, but Gta is kind of going in the right direction with an open world game. Maybe a few more pointers and hints in towns to discovery of more towns, a load of stuff is found by wandering, and that's okay, but i feel like I'm missing a lot unless i scour. Well that, or lower the explorer perk level for an easy opt out. Maybe I'm just a bit bitter I lost my level 19-and-a-half character...

Ah, it's pretty fair though (in grand prix at least), that's pretty much my ideal game in terms of high challenge. It keeps the game fresh for me, I come back after a while, and it's totally fresh. I realise I'm probably in the minority, but you have to appreciate a game built for hardcore playing, without resorting to cheap computer bastardry.

Half-Life 2

I would add more city levels where your fighting combine and then add co-op

seriously if you could play the entire game through with a friend it would be absolutely awesome. I think I've played the campaign through at least 5 times something I haven't really realized I was doing until I came here.

The gameplay is just so tight and broken up with puzzles and platforming it is just fantastic, like that first bite into a perfectly cooked juicy steak. Except you get it time and again throughout the game. I wish valve would make a version that support at least 2 player and maybe even 4 player co-op.

I realize there are mods that allow you to play the campaign co-op but they need work, they are either too hard because there isn't enough ammo or too much everything and it is lame.

Uncharted 2. More accurate platforming, and also faster platforming.

I have to admit, I was surprised Valve never did anything in Episodes 1 and 2, where you have Alyx with you the entire time, that just screamed two-player. (For the record though, I HATE multi-player, and was glad HL2 remained single player).

My improvement goes to Half Life 2- The game was absolutely fantastic, except for one thing...

The squads in Follow Freeman, and the people who show up towards the end of Episode one, but to a lesser degree. I HATED those people, the only thing they were good for was health packs. They got in your way, they provided no use, it... it was just a bad idea. Remove that from the game and I'll even overlook the fact that you are going to get insanely lost on your first playthrough.

Mirror's Edge: Make levels less linear, get rid of E-surance style cutscenes. Oh and make the game longer than 9 levels that are only about 15 minutes each :p The game mechanics are stellar and I think these are the glaring reasons people hate it so much. It's such a great game just has some serious flaws.

There is a difference between "hardcore" playing and "fucking psychotic" playing. F-Zero GX (while still fun) is borderlining the latter. The ridiculous sence of speed is matched by the even more ridiculous, trap-ridden, pit infested tracks. The number of racers on screen wouldn't have been much of a problem if they didn't try their best to kill you. Add the facts that your overall health also determines your overall boost and your boost eats up a large amount of your health and that there is lives system implemented in Grand Prix, and you got yourself one merciless game.

And the story missions...Oh God the story missions. Calling them impossible would be an unerstatement. Most of them don't call for just for strategy and finesse but utter perfection.

Like I said, I fucking love F-Zero GX, but there were times in the game where I just wanted to beat the design team to a pulp.

Well, I'd say giving the Myst games true first-person controls, but they already did that.

So, instead I'll say: Oblivion needs shotguns.
