Making Fable fantastic.

Fable 2 was the first game I played when I got my Xbox and I loved the hell out of it. People argued it was full of meaningless things like having a family or getting fat, but still loved the story, the characters, the world and I still see it as a great game. My friend let me borrow Fable 3 for a while and after having just completed it... WOW. That was awesome! The whole thing was amazing for me from start to finish. The overall game was great, but there were so many little nagging things that made the game less enjoyable. The ending snuck in out of nowhere, being a king was a little weird because you still had to go out and do everything (Granted if you just sat on a throne all day the game would probably be boring as hell, but still, it was weird). But regardless, I thought it was a fantastic game.

Now, its not hard to see, People here, and many other places, LOVE to hate the fable series. So I ask you, what would make you like fable?

A common theme in the series is periodization between games. Fable III took place in a more industrial Albion. I personally have no idea where they could go that would be a good idea. The industrial age was such a turning point in the way we lived, anywhere further would ruin the steampunk vibe they were going for and Fable with machine guns doesn't sound so appealing to me. What do you think they could do here?

Me personally, want a harder Fable. Fable II and III (I have not played I) were so easy, I almost never died in III and actually never died during II.

What would you like to see in a Fable game?

I'd say three is actually a satisfactory place to end it. As you said you couldn't go much further into the future and you can't get any higher than king.

Plus, trilogy is a much nicer more common word than tetralogy or quadrilogy

Well you don't have to be a king, or a powerful figure. There are so many other shoes we could fill. We have been an orphan boy, and a king so far, I can probably think of a couple other things to play. Like...

A pirate.

You could choose what towns to raid if any, going port to port in your pirate ship....

Lots of things.

If you're like me and you played the first Fable first and loved it, you won't like Fable 2.
Just saying.

I loved the first Fable, but when I played Fable 2 I felt disappointed. It was completely different, and it didn't really have the 'feel' of a game I like. It was too straightforward for me, the storyline had no twists and no surprises, it was just "Meet three heroes and then kill the bad guy". I disliked Fable 3 even more, but that's probably just because Peter Molyneux gave me huge piles of false hopes for it. To put it bluntly, he lied shamelessly about it.

To like the newer Fables more, I think they'd need to have some plot twists, and a few surprises in the storyline. Fable 3 had a slight story twist when you became king, but they need to expand on that a little more, and make the twisted section of the plot take up more game than the predicted part.
Also, I just found it impossible to take Fable 3 seriously, with all the old-fasioned English humour in it. It's good for games to have humour, but they need to really cut back on it if they make a Fable 4. There was only one or two side-quests in Fable 3 that had even a flicker of immersion.

I would stream line the story more and have character development impact gameplay more.

(sue me, I just want mass effect with better voice acting)

I think it would be interesting if we played someone who wasn't the chosensuperheroruler person, rather just another fighter, trying to make their way in the world, like Wrecker77 said, a pirate, just somebody who didn't neccessarily have to save or condemn the world, but maybe have a more personal feel to it: Fable on a smaller scale, you grow up in a small village, there are people who are lovely and nice to you, people who are distant and non-chalant, and people who are rude to you, and take advantage of you and your family, the game is based around you surviving and thriving in this fantasy setting, it would give the immersion Molyneux is looking for, but it wouldn't be a Fable game, would it?

I'd love to see a prequel for Fable set in the days of the Old Kingdom. You see artefacts etc of the Old Kingdom in the games but other than that not much is said about it. So yeah I would love to see that.

I always liked the Fable games as they where. Only thing that I would cange is the magic. I almost always end up spamming area effect spells

I really think they need to put the series to bed, they've gone down some really poor routes gameplaywise, and compounded them game after game. The only thing which would interest me in a fourth (and 3 was one of my most anticipated games for a long time) would be a proper exploration of all the Old Kingdom stuff. But they've shown that they have no plan, nor any concern for some overarching story or point to the series so even that wouldn't get much of my interest.
