Male Ponytails?

I'm a 18 year old guy who recently decided to save his hair into a ponytail for the first time.

My question, dear male Escapees, is how someone would be received in your area/home/country/city if they did the same?

Basically, I'm asking if this is "forbidden" in any odd way, shape or form.

I think ponytails look fine as long as you put at the very least some effort into it, i.e. comb the hair properly, don't let it become greasy, etc. Also I find long hair suits slim men more but that's probably more of a personal preference.

In any case, it's your hair, do what you want with it.

It's old hat in the US. You've got rough and tumble bikers running around with waist long ponytails, so ponytails aren't exactly automatically associated with being gayn or effete like in the sixties and seventies.

It's not the most common thing in the US but as long as you keep your hair clean and not a greasy mess I don't think it matters tbh.

Jobs on the other hand...

I used to have one for a few years. 'twas alright, and it's normally received in the Netherlands. Still, now that I'm back to (relatively) short hair, I say no thank you to long hair. Never again.

I've never gotten any trouble about mine. It's a lot more manageable that leaving the hair free to tangle and frizz.

In the UK and no problem here... I've been employed everywhere too from retail, catering, management, car mechanics, zookeeper and pizza places... I don't think anyone really cares unless it reaches the middle of your back. Then you might expect some judgement...

I normally wear it down when i'm not at work though. I'm not exactly hot on the whole pony tail look in the first place.

I've always wanted to grow my hair out, but it just doesn't work for me. My curly hair turns into a white-boy afro when I grow it out. :/

So, yeah. Depends on your hair type, I guess. Smooth, straight hair, kept clean: You're good to go.

Good point. You might want to keep it tucked under your collar during the interview or something... Unless, like me, your dream job is "starving artist." In which case, Follow Your Dreams, and let your hair fly free!

I have one on hot days, though, as you're probably well aware, it's not very hot here in Sweden at the moment, so I keep my hair down now, and only put it in a ponytail when going out.

It's no problem in the UK but it's not too common. Not in my city at last.
I personally don't like long hair on men, but that's just me. Just looks too... eurgh

I think that in most places in the US most people probably wouldn't notice a man with a ponytail anymore. Unless it was a side ponytail or pigtails or something still considered more girls only.

Matter of fact, at least in my area of the US (Florida) long hair on males was very much in style during the second half of the 2000's, and it's not uncommon today. If there's anyone doing any judging, it's the kind of bigoted old people who automatically don't like you for being young, let alone young, male, and wearing a pony tail.

My friend had hair like this living in the US for almost a decade. Last year he cut it off and donated it.

Not exactly uncommon down here when a guy has his hair long enough to be put into one. I remember my dad used to keep his in one, and my cousin Joe keeps his like that too. Course, dad was a mechanic, so it was probably just as much for function as for looks.

Depends on where you live. In the US it might make it harder to find work and you'll get the annoying people telling you that you should cut your hair, but It's nothing you'll get in trouble over. I had one myself until just recently. I kind of miss it since long hair is ridiculously common in the town I moved to, but my hair was fried after a bad dye job, so I didn't have much choice but to cut it.

I often have a ponytail. Not for style, just for practicality. My hair goes a little further than half way down my back, so it can often get in the way and I sometimes just can't be bothered with it.

I think it's generally accepted as okay here (south of England) but it's not exactly fashionable. Guys with long hair are pretty common around my area though.
