I've never been on another gaming forum, so the Escapist took that cherry, I guess. The only other forum I really actively contribute to is the Revolver Magazine forum, and it's small. There's maybe 12 of us who post there very regularly and even that's shaky most days. It is, however, one of the more entertaining forums I've seen when newbs, merch bots, and other nonsense show up. All newbs are thoroughly hazed in brutal fashion. If they stick it out, then they're welcome to the fold.

Facepunch. I'm just glad I'm not being banned anymore. Facepunch isn't so much a community as an abyss into which all hope and human decency drains.

Alright I've been here long enough to know that I feel like you guys are a utopia compared to a LOT of other messaging sites. I "came" from gamefaqs. Well that place was all trolls. No one could do anything without being yelled at for the most stupid reasons.

So I ask you Escapist, where were you before you came to this site and what was it like?
Posting on GameFAQS is kinda like living in a ghetto. It's dangerous, man! This place is like the Upper East Side comparatively. Like you, I came from GameFAQS. I'm glad I found this place.

I used to come from the Artix Entertainment forums, it's actually quite well moderated, it's a bit stricter than the Escapist in terms of language however still a fun place. Although there was what you could call a 'forumite rebellion' a while ago, but even after that, the place remained very...Orderly. I left the place due to personal reasons, and eventually discovered ZP through my brother, and after months of lurking, I signed up.

I started here. /smug grin

I had looked around at some other message boards, but I never really felt compelled to join them, they weren't any good and they weren't interesting. Then one of my friends showed me Yahtzee on about his third episode here and I saw the message boards. I looked around and linked what I saw, so I joined up. This is my first (and likely last) forum, I like the people and the content to much to ever leave.

Except for a short stint on Kotaku, but we don't speak of that time.

I was on Youtube and let me tell you even though there were still the occassional friendly posts for the most part it was just wall to wall spamming of hate and dumbass comments and when I started to realise that I was responding to them with the same amount of hostility I left before I found myself in a 'he who fights monsters' situation.

I much prefer the Escapist. I have a place here.

Definitely the most mature and intelligent forum I've ever seen

I started out on www.ovverclock.net, but that doesn't really interest me much any more.

GameFAQS as well, they were meh. The more popular game boards had idiots and elitists, then as the game got less popular the idiots would leave and the elitists regulars remained, treating the board like a kingdom for whatever reason.

Glad I found The Escapist. ^_^

The Escapist forums are like a No PvP Zone surrounded by the troll-infested forests that are everyone else's forums.

I rarely bothered with forums; mostly commentary sections, blog club communities, & the occasional post on the TGWTG forum.

I've browsed several other forums, but never really cared enough to stick with them or make an account so I could post. A friend linked this to me because of ZP, and all I did was watch videos for a few months. Then I started noticing the forums, and I spent several months lurking. I made an account a little over two years ago, and I'm here every day. As you can see from my post count, I still lurk far more than posting, though.

IMO The Escapist isn't even as good as it once was, there are a lot more frivolous threads created that 2 years ago would have been locked outright.
It was this right here that actually got me to join. I miss the Escapist that we had a few years ago.
Oh well, IMO it's still the best gaming forum on the net :)

You're telling me. The D/P board went to all hell because this guy was trying to be a king

Before the Escapist... well, a few years ago I frequented the Battleon forums. They were pretty decent, but after a while people just stopped going on.

This is actually my first gaming forum. I've only ever been a part of one other forum, and that was a furry forum, but that was years ago. I do remember that the community there was amazing, maybe better than this one. Although that's probably just because it was smaller than this one, but eh.

This is the only gaming site I've ever posted on and it is probably the only one I'll ever need.

I was mainly on youtube before I saw the glistening light at the center of the swamp that is the internet. I also tried Facepunch but my visit there is the internet equivalent of poking my head inside a closed door, then getting a large rock thrown at my head.

The last online community I belonged to was called The X-Men Briefing Room. That was... wow... thirteen years ago. Man, I'm old...

It was the best community of internet strangers of which I've ever been a part, and I don't fancy I'll ever be a part of such a community again.

Regardless, the Escapist community is one of the better places out there, and hands-down the best video gaming community there is.

I love this place because everybody is totally accepting, intelligent, nobody here has ever been dickish in the slightest, and above all, everybody understands my satire.
Am sorry i just have to disagree. This sites great but not everyones accepting not even close. Sure there accepting of you if you follow there values. I went to thread asked "What game are you not a fan of" I said half life. I got like 50 messages trying to verbally destroty me!. Thats funny acceoting of everyone.
My post was total and complete satire. Half of the userbase here, just like everywhere else, is total assholes.
