just saw this report and though I'd share.

A man was shot because he told the person next to him to not be so noisy eating popcorn. After watching Black Swan, Nikolajs Zikovs shot and killed Aigers Egle, a 43 year old father of 4.

According to eyewitnesses, during the film Zikovs was commented to by a number of other viewers about his loud eating and to stop commenting regularly during the film. Egle was sat next to Zikova and, after the film, Zakovs shot Egle 3 times.

This is bad enough but what made me laugh was that Zikovs' solicitor released a statement saying he acted in self defence.

To shoot someone for something so trivial, that you were causing in the first place, is stupid and I hope he goes down for it. Acting in self defence my arse.

The caption on the photo in the article kind of pissed me off: "Man killed in cinema for 'eating too loudly'." Seriously, how could they get that wrong? More on topic, that's horrible.

He could've moved to a different seat.
His solicitors say it was self-defence. The last time i checked, enjoying a crunchy mouthful of popcorn isn't exactly life threatening

That is absolutely terrible, what I want to know is, how was he acting in "self defense"? Either way he has deprived four kids of a father over a stupid, petty, meaningless argument. The shooter should be jailed and I hope he does.

The guy who died asked the guy eating popcorn and making loud comments to stop doing so.

Sure, he could have moved to a different seat, but when someone pays to see a movie, they don't want other people ruining it by talking or being noisy.

To shoot someone who asks you to quiet down during a movie is just ridiculous.

He waited until the end of the movie to shoot him? He had plenty of time to think it over, this seems a bit absurd to be true.

I'm not taking the Baltic Presses word for what happened, and defiantly not taking Yahoo's interpretation. That story just screams for more information. It makes it seem the annoying man shot in cold blood after the movie, but makes mention of a confrontation.

People don't just kill other people over something so simple, something else happened. Even if all that something else was is a fight there is still information missing from that story.

Blaming this all on popcorn eating, or anything else is as lousy as blaming video games because the person happened to have been playing them before or after doing something horrible.

Ban together Escapist

Black Swan encourages murdering people for your popcorn eating habits. We must stop this movie before more innocents are taken.

What the... I don't know.
Some people have real fucking problems/issues if they're to kill someone over this

Good job I very rarely go to the cinemas, you seriously do get some assholes in there who never shut up (on purpose, too!) or chuck their food etc.

Well, to be frank there aren't many things more annoying while enjoying a movie, than someone eating loudly and talking, especially commenting in the middle of the movie and so on.

I agree with what manaman said about the lack of information, and I don't believe the story behind this act could've been so simple. Just plain old exciting-headline news.

..........What?

That's absolutely terrible. That man clearly has problems and should not be allowed to re-integrate back with society EVER. What scares me is not only was he willing to shoot someone over being told not to make noise in a movie, but that he decided to wait until the movie was over to shoot him. That, and the fact he brought a !@#$ing GUN to a MOVIE THEATER points to him being a psychopath.

Book him and throw away the key, he's clearly not fit for interaction with other humans.

Clearly, this is the popcorn's fault. We should start restricting who has access to such a deadly foodstuff.

I'm sorry. The average citizen can't be trusted with popcorn. Oh sure, you may be a responsible popcorn user, but what if someone steals it from you? Then we have unregistered popcorn just out there, on the street. It's just safer to leave popcorn in the hands of the military and the police.
....Don't make me do it. I have the launch codes, I punched in your location, the security keys are turned, and my finger is ON the button. Don't make me press it. Just leave my beloved snack alone!

Typical popcorn user. Reacting with violence. Fine. So long as it's not automatic or semi-automatic popcorn, and you are not allowed to carry it concealed in public. Also, you need to get a background check and go through a three day waiting period before you are issued your popcorn.

;p
S-SEMI AUTOMATIC?!

Does Semi-automatic include microwave popcorn?

If there was any justice this would downgrade video games' involvement with violence.

I wonder how the media is going to blame this on video games...

Terrible joke. Seriously though, this just shows how dangerous society can be.
Not how dangerous it has BECOME though, because it's always been like this.

Oh my goodness yes! There is no need to have kernels popping at such a high rate of speed. It's an even more hazardous situation than regular popcorn. I mean, in what situation are you going to need popcorn that quickly? Hunting? Target practice?
Midterm studies. I need something to snack on to reduce my panic at not quite understanding this Calculus 2 stuff.

....Which I really should be doing now, but I can't bring myself to close this modsbanned window. >_<

oh no no! don't make me pick sides in this conflict again, please!

OT: Let this be a lesson that there will always be someone just naturally talented and better than you at everything, even being an anger-issue ridden psychopath.
