Cant stop the signal. Someone will find a way around it.
Actually I think it took someone about half an hour to get around it.

in America, ( i know you said Australia ) that would be unacceptable.
In Soviet Russia, unacceptable would be you!

Wait, that doesn't make any sense. Dammit.

On-topic: I seriously doubt the legislation for this would get through, and even if it did, it would be impossible to enforce. You can't block everything on the Internet, and there will always someone out there who can find a way to get access to what you did block.

I'm against government censoring. Let the people make their own choices.

It wouldn't really work anyways, It's easy to find a way around school block things, and this would be the same except on a larger scale.

Censorship is just stupid, people have to make their own choices what's inappropriate and what's not.

this is how it starts. Totalitarianism. Control over everything, just like obama wants to do
Careful, the thought police will get you.

Anyway, on the subject, it is just control over everything that could possibly influence teenage or child violence, sex etc.. It's censorship and it's wrong.

What excuse do they have for this that doesn't include the words "Influencing youths", as there are adults in Australia as well I'm guessing. Unless it's like Lord of the Flies. On an island that big.

That would be awesome.

Its an issue that is starting to become big down here in Australia, but the government are trialling a 'mandatory' internet filter which will block certain sites regardless of your preferences. They say that the they will only block sites deemed too inappropriate for children but eventually they will start to block websites unjustly (coming from a student who has to use school provided internet that has blocked everything, including education sites). The main problem is that it may block certain games for being deemed too violent for young kids.

So the essential question is, what is your opinion on this?
and add anything on this if needed.
They should never outright ban something just because kids could get for it.

This kind of goes along with TV and radio censorship. Who's to say the FCC gets total control over what is said on TV and radio? Like George Carlin said, (and I may be paraphrasing) "...and if you don't like what you're hearing, there's two knobs on the radio: one changes the channel, and one turns it off!". I don't understand why this kind of censorship is common occurrence, but blocking internet sites is any different.

Of course, I'm obviously against both of them.
