Ok guys I'm looking for a good manga to read and some good anime to watch. But lets not just give names add some descriptions and your reasons for liking them. You guys have given good responses for several for my posts so far lets see how many we can get this time. XD

Neon Genesis Evangelion. Deconstruction of the giant robot genre (as in, piloting a giant robot would not be cool). Teens fighting space monsters inside giant robots. Which are not actually giant robots.

It turns everything the giant robot genre has on its head, has realistic characters, and is not formulaic of the time. Formula adapted to it.

In terms of manga: Princess Resurrection/ Monster Princess/ Blood Queen.

A young boy dies and is brought back to life by a monster princess and he must drink her blood or die within three days while encountering monsters such as vampires, werewolves, zombies, mummies, yetis, etc.

It is an homage to every monster movie ever, and that is why I like it.

Violent/Comedy: Gurren Lagaan. Humans band together in head shaped robots to fight other things in head shaped robots. Humourous and serious in equal parts with an interesting story.
Non-violent/Romance: Spice and Wolf. A peddler meets a wolf goddess who asks her to take her to her home in the north. The character interaction and development is fantastic, and the world improves on this.
All Rounder: Code Geass. Britain takes over most of world, japan fights back with the help of a British guy with supernatural powers. Witty, great, the art style is amazing, and the plot twists and characters are just fantastic. It just has this completely different take on mecha series, like if Death Note met Gundam SEED (both good series)

Shigofumi: Its a recent anime that doesnt have stupid comedy, fanservice, and over the top expressions.

EAch episode taclkes a topic like suicide, depression, life, divorce, child abuse, etc while you learn of the messengers past. (shes a messenger from the after life who gives letters from the dead) And no its not as depressing as it sounds, its actually very thought provoking.

And for manga go read Negima! its way better than Naruto and Bleach it is the only long manga THAT I have enjoyed and it does not drag on.

anime: Pani Poni Dash, if you like randomness, schoolgirls, mechas, and anything else from the whole anime world...ooor, Mnemosyne. Short, only 8 episodes. But awesome, mystical, bit gory, sexually highly explicit and completely confusing.
manga...probably the best i've read (tho i havent had too many) would be Earl Cain, its gothic, creepy, clever, interesting, and horroristic.

Well... these are all the animes I've seen, I love them all.

-Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. In the words of Sacman, "Despite having no real plot, Higurashi is one of the most atmospheric and frightening shows I've ever seen" (or something like that). And yeah, it's paranoia fuel at its best. And it has rainbow hair ^^

-Ergo Proxy. This is probably my favourite. It's a fairly dark, psychological sci-fi thriller-action thing that just works on all levels. The writing becomes a little cheesy at times, but other than that it's incredible.

-FLCL. Basically, anything I say here won't make sense at all, because the anime doesn't either. But it's completely self-concious and knows how insane it is, which is probably why I loved it. It's only 6 episodes, but go ahead and watch it NAO

-Azumanga Daioh. It's a comedy/slice-of-life thingy following a group of six girls (one of whom was switched out for a complete ***** called Kagura) and their teachers. It's completely hilarious and the entire thing is driven by character development.

Aaaaaand I'm watching Serial Experiments Lain at the moment, from what I've seen so far it'll probably get added to the list xD

Anime: Cowboy Bebop- space bounty hunters look for bounties and learn about themselves in the end, its got great fight scenes, the right amount of comedy and its got a girl dressed seductivly enough to not take her seriously...

If you like philiosophy try: The Big O 1 and 2- Roger Smith is a negotiator for the city of amnesia. Roger is also the pilot of the Megadeuce (mecha) Big O and fights to save the city of amnesia from various bad guys. I HIGHLY suggest it, its a serious one though

Manga: I cant help you there, the only Manga Ive read is the Cowboy Bebop Manga that Cain Kuga wrote

Manga: One Piece. It's funny, full of action, superpowers, facial expressions and stupidity to die for and character development.

I like it immensely, and I'm a hard guy to please when we're talking manga.

Read: Vinland Saga - Manga only, great viking manga that's currently in a fairly drawn out build up part - the incredibly badass end of it that is. The main attraction here is the art, characters and battles. About 70 chapters so far.

Berzerk - Manga goes farther. It has astoundingly good art, rich plotline and amazing characters. Just forgive the first chapter or two for kind of sucking.

Pokemon Special/Adventures - It's Pokemon. It's way better than the anime. Still gets kinda corny sometimes, admittedly.

Watch: Genshiken, since the art style is more consistent than the comic. It's a humourous take on geek culture.

Darker Than Black - An action show with strong characters that you can actually get attached to in a short time, but be warned: Anyone can die.

Anime:
Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt is a parody of magical girl animes, it doesn't really matter what it's about, it has some of the most random and funny plotlines I've ever seen, also more references that you could possibly catch it is quite addictive and delightfully weird
Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan which is about an angel that has to live with a boy to prevent him from creating immortality... mostly through violence.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is just too awesome to put into words.
Soul Eater is a pretty funny deconstruction of "Combat School" animes and the backgrounds and world are just beautiful (also read the manga... It is just as good if not better than the anime)
manga:
Soul Eater: see above
Parasyte is about an alien invasion involving parasitic worms invading human hosts and using them to eat other humans, the main character's right hand was infected so he kept his free will and works with the parasite to kill the other invaders.
Koe De Oshigoto is about a shy high school girl who gets talked into working for a ero-ge (porn game) voice actor by her sister... It's pretty funny

If you don't mind watching a very very long anime, watch One Piece.

It has style, great characters, and originality. It is currently over 400 episodes, almost 500. But it stays fresh with the new stories and arcs. You will grow attached to the characters. The art style and animation might be ackward at first, but the style will grow on you. And the animation will keep on improving as the show goes on (the show started, last decade)

If you want more info, join the One Piece group.

The manga is also just as good as the anime, if not better. But both are phenominal.
