Now don't don't me wrong I love march madness, its a fun time to be had......but with all the hatred that we give VS threads on this site doesn't it seem a little... hypocritical for us to be having this? Its just one big VS thread.

I guess March Mayhem is fun because it's the only time you're technically allowed to be a massive fanboy.

Notch tweeted to vote for him. That made thousands of people register, and go on this website, which means more people looking at advertisements.

That's what MM is for (people to come on to the website to fanboy for which ever developer sent them there, and the site benefits because more people= more money)

You'll still see the occasional vs thread that gets a decent size.

Its just something they like to do. Its festive, its fun, and its relevant, cause most of the people on the escapist are associated with or will associate with a college in the real march madness.

Personaly, I feel they should do one ofr each major sporting competition, though then it would probably get boring.

BUt think about the loads and loads of fanboys who now have 1 comment and will never ever come back to the escapist again ...
that makes me sad:/
Read most of the loads and loads of one comment posts and realise why it is so much better that they're never coming back.

This is the other biggest problem with March Mayhem, all the big developers urge their fanboys to swarm the site, when the fans don't really know anything about the sort of community we have here, and there's about a half month where there's a whole bunch of trolls and /b/tards and other assorted internet annoyances messing things up.

But no, original point still stands, the VS thread is one of the single most cracked down upon threads on this site, along with pro-piracy threads (I am not advocating piracy in this comment) but apparently when it's an official vs thread flame war it's better. Kind of like how a lot of the comments on Yahtzee's videos are really just mindless parroting of his lines or someone declaring proudly that they saw it and agree with him, but generally they get ignored unless things get really out of hand.

Flame wars, it's only a problem when the users start them.

I joined the escapist for mm after hanging around it watching videos for a while. Hoped to get that laptop (or whatever it was) but gave up after the first round.

Yes it was vitally important that you knew that.

OT: yes

Bioware fans - if you want Bioware to win, then you need to take action!

Notch has alerted his fans via twitter. So far as I know, in this round, EA/Bioware have not. That means we need to get the word out ourselves.

Post links to the Escapist on other forums you frequent, asking people there to come vote for Bioware. Ask your friends, post it on your Facebook wall, send out twitter messages - whatever you can do to get people here to vote for Bioware.

I've already let everyone I know online know. Now it's your turn - get the word out and keep the hope alive.

Bioware for the win!

For the record, the staff says its about making people more aware of developers they may have otherwise never heard of.
Its not so civil now, but that's part of what happens when you ask the general public into a close community. And the Escapist staff are constantly trying to improve it, both technically and in the theoretical. March Madness will get there eventually.
