Huh. I really thought we'd see the PS3 ahead of the 360 in monthly sales by now. I was under the impression it was gaining some really solid momentum.

Loads of people were buying DS' for Heart Gold and Soul Silver I'll bet, because of nostalgia. I'm surprised Soul Silver sold more than Heart Gold, I thought it was the less popular game of the two.

Software sales are dominated by two turn based games as they should be. Good third and fourth place efforts by the brawler and the FPS but maybe they could improve sales if they moved with the times and made the sequels turn based.

VG Chartz has the PS3 outselling the 360 in every week of March.

VG chartz isn't that well respected but to explain the difference they are world wide numbers but NPD is just US. PS3 sells more than 360 in many regions outside the US.

Yeah, the 360 does sell better in the States. It's pretty much the only region where it does. Much like the PS3 dominance in Japan. EU is still the real battleground where things are almost dead even.

EDIT: I personally think worldwide numbers are a better gauge than America only numbers.

Worldwide numbers are maybe more revealing but VGChartz themselves have data gathering techniques that some people fondly refer to as "making shit up." I think that in continental Europe the PS3 is ahead but UK is more like the USA so skews the data back to 360.

The United Kingdom have been overwhelmed by the PS3 while Sweden is currently dominated by the Xbox 360. I don't know the statistics for the other countries though.
