For every person like you there is a 100 more people who don't want to see Nintendo to do anything new.

Honestly I'm starting to hate the word innovation(becoming terribly overused). Innovation isn't synonymous with fun.
I understand that Nintendo has revolutionised gaming as we know it, but a couple of new franchises couldn't hurt matters, right?

Call me crazy but ...isn't this Epic Yarn thing a bit inspired off Little Big Planet? Where everything is made of fabric?

I have to say, it might be better if for the next character they came up with a similar but different art style.

Mario gets Paper, Kirby gets Yarn, and for the next one they can go with, say, modeling clay.

hmmmm can you imagine a metorid epic yarn or a donkey kong epic yarn hey maybe if every nintendo character there will be an epic yarn game where you could play as them all and each character has a unique power and it's not a super smash bros epic yarn
I'm calling it right now, next super smash game will have yarn kirby(or any other yarn char they have by that time).
I think they should make them as a skin for a yarn level
Thats a distinct possibility, but I was more talking along the lines of toon link or doctor mario.

I think I'd really enjoy a Mario game done with the same visual style, but I hope this isn't signalling the start of a widespread trend.
Honestly I'd love to see yarnified Resident Evil. Not that I'd buy it - at least not at full price - but it would be hilariously awesome.

Oh oh! Then we can have Super Craft Materials Bros. (Yes I know someone already made a smash bros joke in this thread, eat me. :p) Though I would not be against modeling clay.

I agree with this sentiment, but to be fair: Epic Yarn was new. And while it's likely Nintendo will make some sequel involving yarn, it will probably stick to Kirby: this sounds to me more like a game dev who wanted to work on a cool idea than, say, an Activision PR person telling us how there will be seven new COD titles next year.

Yeah Epic Yarn had a good visual style because it is new, it won't be if you carbon copy it over and over again.
Which Nintendo will do. For fifteen years, and then make it shiny yarn.
I'd actually hope it won't be quite that bad. Truthfully the idea is a little too cutesy for me as it stands now. I would however be more interested if they say decided to bring more serious characters like Solid Snake, or Samus into that kind of a colorful "fairy tale" world to resolve problems in their trademark ways just for fun.

Sort of like old jokes and wierd one shot comics about say Rambo taking on the scenario from "The Wizard Of Oz" or Judge Dredd in Wonderland. Typically ideas in that vein only work for one shots (and tend to be fairly predictable) but it would have an unusual amount of potential for a video game, as gamers do seem to take a certain amount of joy from seeing cutesey, kiddy type things meet with horrible fates. Heck there was an entire game called "Raze's Hell" based around that.

Try and envision "Kirby's Epic Yard" instead with Solid Snake or Big Boss and throat cutting and heavy weapons usage being standard problem solving devices. :p

Maybe I'm just too depraved, but that's oddly where my hopes would lie, and what it would likely take to get me to buy one of these games. >:)

Then again I'm also the guy who thought they should have actually made a game out of the old Electric Ferret joke/Vs. comparison where they had "Kraven The Hunter goes to Pokemon Island". :)

Everyone relax. They're not going to make a game called Mario's Epic Yarn.

It's funny. There are people like you and then there are tons of people who say Nintendo should go back to their GC controller and go with HD. The truth is that on top of being one of the (IMO the best) best developers out there, Nintendo is arguably the most innovative and creative in their hardware and software alike. They have about 25 different franchises....none of them are a turd shooting game, most of them are exceptional, and some of them are among the greatest of all time.

Is this surprising in the least? Any successfull game they make is rehashed ad nauseum. This game looks fun but I'm so sick of Nintendo I can do without most of their "exclusives".
I'll just go play Kirby's Adventure.
Just to clarify here, are you criticizing Nintendo for something it has not actually done yet?
Just to be clear, yes and no. First off, this game (Epic Yarn) is just another installment in the formulaic remakes of their classics (albeit with a cool visual style) just like the infinite installments of Zelda, Metroid, Mario, etc. So in that sense, no I am not criticizing it for something it hasn't done yet, because they are already doing it. Although a small minority of these remakes may be fun, most of them are just short term enjoyment and nothing new, and have little to no replay value, for me. There are fewer exceptions to this observation than there are examples.

And also, they are discussing revamping old games in this epic yarn visual style, most notably Mario as per what the entire article was about. In that sense, yes I am criticizing them for something they haven't done yet, but my opinion isn't any less valid than someone who is saying they want to see more games in this visual style. After all, the entire article is them just tossing around an idea, and that's all I can really comment on, whether or not I like the idea.

So is it wrong to criticize something that is only being tossed around as an idea? Maybe, maybe not, but as I stated as my own personal opinion I am sick of nintendo doing this. This is why I sold my wii, as I felt there wasn't any new exlcusive content on it that I felt made the console worth keeping. Just remakes of old games.

Any more questions?

No.
No becaaaaause?
No because a game called Yoshi's Story used fabric way before Little Big Planet.
See that's a valid argument not "No". That's all I wanted, seriously I take no sides with this stuff, I couldn't help but figure it was because of Lbp that they used fabric.
