I could seriously see this happening under Bush, but Obama is unlikely to put Martial Law into effect unless he allows his Ministers to run the entire country for him.

I really hope not. I live in Ohio and I pray every day that Martial Law does not come into effect, however I doubt that it will.

no i know that state of emergency can be declared, it was just funny after the discussion popped up it was mentioned.

I really doubt this is going to happen, It's just impractical and would cause the citizenship to completely lose trust in their government. Unless people really are that scared over there.

This whole world-wide terrorism shaboodle can't be the U.S.'s first taste of terrorism, can it? There must've been some before. Like the IRA for the UK, as an example.

Iv been seeing alot about how America is going to put martial law into effect because of rising threat to homeland.


im not too worried myself, being that in a few weeks ill be in the ARMY. but for those who are not. I'm a bit concerned.

You dont put martial law into effect unless there's a disastor. Not only that but Martial law is expensive, if you think that the entire nation could have paid armed troops running around you haven't got a clue as to how much money our government has.

Martial Law was introduced on December 31st 1981.

People even today are debating if it was a good thing. 100 people died during the Martial Law, but on the other hand the Soviet Union didn't invade our country.

But the trials of generals that introduced the law are still in progress. But IMO, as long as it protects your country and doesn't harm anyone, it's good.

It might be a bit too much of a panic for USA, though. You don't have many agressive neighbours.

Governments declaring martial law is usually the precursor to revolution. It only works as long as the army is willing to carry out the government's orders. I can't see the US armed forces turning their guns on American civilians.

Martial law is a dodgy concept, it involves giving Generals (people accustomed to directing soldiers) command over civilians. It's a short term system at best, it just doesn't work in the long term.
