Man I just don't get the love for Guardians of the Galaxy. That movie was NOT funny. Everything that came out of the racoon's mouth made me cringe, the whole plot was basically the Avengers formula all over again with the same exact themes, and the ending was... that the power of friendship LITERALLY saves the day with magic?

Fuck right off. I don't care how many people love that movie, I thought it was a piece of flaming shit full of plot holes and awful dialogue. The only good part of that movie was Michael Rooker.

Agree completely GotG and IM3 worst two MCU films of the lot so far.
Ya, the ending was terrible but the movie was fun. It's been so long since we've had a fun space romp that a lot of it's weaker parts get overlooked. Were the movie really excelled was settings, mood and characters.

I love how these become a dumping ground for everyone's opinions on which movies they didn't like... so here is my opinion... and some criticism of criticisms. None of them were bad movies. Some were better than others because all things are not equal. It should shouldn't count against a movie if it does not add substantially to the MCU, they need to be good stand alone films. The MCU isn't an attempt to make all the characters available in a single movie (I am positive at best we are going to see cameos of different characters in both Civil War and Infinity Gauntlet). It's a an attempt to build a universe that is like the comic universe. Where X event happens to Y character and we KNOW FOR CERTAIN WITHOUT SPECULATION that those events and that character exists in the same universe as Z character. That is all. GotG was a great film in it's own right and the fact that the only main MCU event was the bit at the very end should be fine. Was it perfect? Far from it. If you look at the comics, the entire Civil War was happening on Earth which seemed so huge to everyone, while entire galaxies were burning at the hands of Annihilus. The movies can be that way too. The only important point is that this is happening in the same universe as those other events. And it just comes off as pedantic when people are like, "but it didn't add anything to the MCU". As character films, the only expectation is that it should add to those characters. which every film arguably has added to those characters in pretty substantial ways.

Firstly, haven't seen the movie yet.

Secondly, I continue to hold out desperate hope that Wasp will be a thing that comes out of this. I'd be alright with Stature, but I just love the ass-kicking techno-fairy thing Wasp has going on. Marvel is severely hurting for capable women heroes, and Wasp would be a good way to bring one in.

Giant Girl would also be acceptable too. Especially now that Spider-Man is actually in the MCU. I really liked his relationship with Giant Girl in the comics. It was just a cool thing all around, with a lot of chemistry and great banter :D

So, after having some time to sit and think about The Avenger 2, and then seeing recently another trailer for Ant Man - I think I feel pretty comfortable with my decision to sit this one out. If I catch it on netflix later or something, then that's fine, but I'm really not interested.

The next MCU picture I see will probably be the Captain America: Civil War one, but even now I'm kinda leery because I want to see something as good as "The Winter Soldier" was (which was really, in my opinion, the best MCU movie to date) but I heard they expanded Robert Downy Jr's role quite a bit, which makes me think it will be an Avengers 2.5 more than anything else.

Oh well, at least I won't have to suffer through Joss Whedon's terrible fight choreography.

"You have to see how it fits into this huge puzzle and you need to be there for whatever mid-credit revelations there are." Meaning no disrespect, I'm pretty sure I could find both of those on Google... a week before it hits theatres.

Just got back from watching the film and seeing this is really unnecessary.

The only references they made in Ant-man are these past films-

Iron Man
Captain American: The Winter Soldier (well ok this is more of an cameo than a reference)
Avengers 2

I hardly doubt that anyone who is competely new to the MCU decide to watch Ant-Man as his or first and became so confused after watching that he or she decide to watch binge the MCU films!!

You also need to see it if you're invested in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They're all obligatory at this point; missing one is almost a crime. What Marvel and Disney have done here is create must-see movies, almost regardless of quality.
And there's the problem. Good thing I can look up the summery if any of them are dreck.
