MUA2 was almost completely inferior to the original in every way. Other than storyline, which is honestly debateable, and the addition of fusions, I can't think of anything they did better. Let's go down the line, shall we?
- Far less characters.
- Less powers per character.
- Less costumes per character.
- Less dynamacy to the powers that the characters did get.
- Worse voice acting. I know, I was surpised to. I mean, really, how could you do worse than Ultimate Alliance 1?
- Dialogue options that force you to pick what you say based on what bonuses you want, rather than what you actually should be saying.
- Removal of the comic book missions.
- Much shorter game. This was supposed to be offset by the game having two paths, but the levels are practically identical no matter which way you go, with only a view subtle changes and a couple different cutscenes.
- Relocking the characters you unlocked on a second playthrough unless you play in legendary mode.
- Not having a New Game+ mode unless you played back through on Legendary. (some folks like to just replay as gods, okay?)
And let's see.... what'd they do better?
- Storyline is better, at least I thought so. Technically this is subjective.
- Fusions were added. Granted, many of them are identical, but some are kind of neat to see.
- A new mechanic for healing and teammate revival was added that was kind of cool, I'll admit.
- There's this one part where you talk to Firestar and you can ask her if it's good working with Iceman and Spiderman again and she goes, "It's nice to have such amazing friends." Seriously, it was awesome. And if you don't get it than fuck you. I'm not old, goddamn it.
So yeah. I'd say they spent so much time building fusions that they had to cut back their other stuff too much, and the game really suffers for it. But what can you do? Maybe 3 will be better.
