So yeah, I finally got around to playing Ultimate Alliance 2, after liking the first game somewhat, and not really following the plot and storyline releases for this one.

What. The. Hell?

Game play is fun enough, but why, why would they do such as horrible thing as to use the plot from Civil War. It just doesn't make sense. It's like if they made a Spiderman game based on One More Day. I'm sad.

Perhaps if they'd given us the option to change Wolverine's dialouge to nothing but "snikt bub"s, I'd be more placated. But Marvel are far too busy sucking down Logan's giant adamantium cock.

Grah.

Why is that horrible? It's a good story, and a very important one at that. I'd think that just made the game better.

But I haven't played it yet, so who am I to say anything.

I want the game for the fact it was set in Civil War, that story arch was awesome. Not got around to getting it yet.

From what I've heard they murdered the civil war storyline. It isn't a great setting though, a lot of posturing, hiding and restrained fighting when they could/should talk it out.

Edit: Oh I can't have a team with Cable or Ares in it.

First of all, wolverine's adamantium only covers his bones, not his... oh wait, wrong subject...

Seriously though, I agree that the Civil war storyline threw logic out the window, just like most major crossovers where you have a dozen different editors working on a dozen different tie-ins. In fact, the fact it is based on the Civil War is the ONLY reason I haven't played it yet, I mean, I have the money, I just don't know if I want to risk it on such a hypocritical plot line.

As much as I liked the Civil War, I hope that they include some Secret Invasion in there because it really brings things full circle.

I actually enjoyed most of Civil War. Didn't care for turns it took in Ultimate Alliance 2.

I'll be honest, though, I was just happy to have Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Daredevil and Spider-Man on one team. I'm a real sucker for those "street level" heroes.

Because the Civil War storyline enables you to kick the crap out of superheroes you don't like, as opposed to just assembling against the same old villains. Besides, most video games like having that sense of choice and moral conflict in their games, and the designers obviously felt this storyline gave them a lot of opportunities to capitalise on.

Keep in mind that just because you don't necessarily like the storyline in the comic book universe, that doesn't mean it won't translate well to a game. Personally, I think this was the perfect storyline to translate to a game.

Played it, beat it.

Short as hell, it was.

Mind you, I thought Civil War was lame, but I relished the idea of teaming up Deadpool,Captain America, Hulk, and Wolverine (otherwise known as "Team WTF?!") and stomping Iron Man's face, wrecking some Avengers, and otherwise causing mayhem.

Too bad that hope got thrown out the window in the Third Act!

I disliked the comic arc, but I liked the game. For one thing *gasp spoiler*, they ditch the Civil War about halfway through and did an original (well ok, not really original, but not in the comics) plot.

I liked that fact that I could give those three douches: Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic and Hank Pym a good thrashing. It was cathartic to unleash how I felt about their behavior in the comics' storyline, especially when Secret Invasion came out and two of those guys had NO excuses to how they acted.

All in all I like Ultimate Alliance 2. Miss Marvel was damned over powered, and Iron Fist was useless, just like they are in the comics. My only real complaint was the alternate costumes. What the Hell? Most of them were downright retarded in their choice, and there could have been better ones. I mean, who wouldn't have wanted to see Luke Cage in his old Power Man outfit, complete with flaired collar?

I didn't mind the Civil War storyline, but the game took it to a more cliched territory. Although it's definitely fun to pull Deadpool into any team, I'm still disappointed with the game. And the chapters are quite short, the combat fairly repetitive. *sigh* I haven't played the multiplayer, so I can't confirm this, but I have a sneaking suspicion that this is one more title where the single-player campaign was just not given the attention it deserved. This one will be traded in promptly when DA:O comes out.
