Marvel's New Spidey Comic Focuses on a Teenage Peter Parker

"Before He Was Amazing... He Was SPIDEY!"

Marvel has announced a new comic, Spidey, which will focus on a teenage Peter Parker as he balances his double life of awkward high-schooler by day, web-slinging superhero by night.

Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso stated that the new comics will not be a re-telling of old stories, but rather will focus on adding more substance to Parker's early years as Spider-Man.

"Everyone remembers their FIRST Spider-Man comic. SPIDEY aims to be perfect as someone's first Spider-Man comic, or their one thousandth. We're not looking to re-tell stories here. What Robbie [Thompson] and Nick [Bradshaw] have put together is an exciting new take on Spider-Man at his arguably most iconic incarnation, and will feel fresh to new and old fans alike."

"Out of the 700-plus issues of Amazing Spider-Man, Peter Parker was only in high school for thirty issues," said Spider-Man editor Nick Lowe. "Stan [Lee] and Steve [Ditko] covered a lot, but there's a lot of the high school and early superhero experience still on the table."

Spidey will be written by Robbie Thompson (Marvel's Silk and television's Supernatural), while art will be handled by Nick Bradshaw(Wolverine and the X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy).

SPIDEY #1 will be available this fall.

What happened to the decree that Miles Morales was THE Spider-Man?

Well, I suppose if he's Spidey, it's technically true....

Nah, he's been an adult in the comics for like forty years.
Yet he still acts like a teenager and the writers just won't let him grow up.

Oh wow, a teenage spiderman, never seen that before!

Sigh, eternally stunted characters, the curse of mainstream comic books...

Feh, First wasn't he already practically a teenager? he acted like one and this is coming from a teenager haha Second I really don't see what "amazing plot" is supposed to come out of this... "CHECK OUT ISSUE #3 TO FIND OUT IF HE MANAGED TO PASS HIS MATH FINAL" ok maybe I'm exaggerating, but still

I would be so fine with this if they just brought back Marvel Adventures: Spiderman

That was only for the Ultimates universe, in the 616 after the merge Miles is just another in the pantheon of spider-based heroes (and there where already too many of them before he showed up as it was).

Or the whole Marvel Adventures line-up while they're at it. Didn't have the bogged down writing from decades of plots no one cares about like 616 or the "realistic reimagining turned grimdark because we can't make realistic not be grimdark" issue Ultimates had.

OT: Oh boy, just what I need, Peter's whole character becoming a clean slate AGAIN. I really wish Marvel had never stopped the "one real year is a year in the comics" thing they had from 1961 to some time in the mid 1970s. I mean think of the possibilities, Peter would be 68 by now, and the X-men save Xavior and Wolverine would be around that age as well. The possibilities of the first generation of heroes being too old to fight or at the end of their time in the field (save those with anti-ageing powers) where the children and grandchildren of even the younger characters born from that era would be active within the community. I don't know who stopped time marching on or why, but it has got to be one of the biggest missed opportunities in all of fiction.

That shit was hilarious!

OT: Why not focus on Kid Parker instead? Or Old-Man Parker? I mean, unless Ben's still alive or something like that, I'm trying to see why this is about a big of a deal as the first episode of Ultimate Spider-Man (the show that replaced The Spectacular Spider-Man) spoiling the existence of Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D....

Cool, I liked Ultimate Spider-Man. Pretty decent run.

This sounds like exactly that, so I'm not sure how this is an exciting new take, but whatever, I'll read it.

Holy shit, Daniel O'Brien was right [https://youtu.be/G1dO462ufLc?t=4m30s]. Spider-Man is literally going to be a teenager forever.

I loathe this idea, everything it stands for and the very concept of high school Spider-Man to its very core.

Marvel, where the heck is Spider-Man '94 comic? You know, the one that could actually be interesting.

I think people are misunderstanding this a bit, it isnt that they're rebooting Spiderman, its a separate title from the main title that takes place in the past.

And it probably does seem pretty tired and overdone, but I dont see anything wrong with having a Spiderman title that could conceivably be aimed at actual kids, away from all the complex continuity stuff of the modern Spidey stuff. Not everything has to reinvent the wheel or appeal to people who've read dozens of Spiderman comics

I think it should be mentioned in the article that this isn't the main Spiderman title. The main Peter Parker one has him in a more international sense now that his business is growing rapidly and he is becoming a global hero instead of just one based in New York. Miles will be taking over the New York side and I'm guessing Spidey will be like the mini series that followed Superior Spiderman last year and focused on Peter in high school shortly after he got his powers. But yeah, we really don't need more High School Spidey.
