yeah. After I noticed that The Arrival DLC is due to hit at the end of the month I thought I'd bust out my old mass effect games.
Only to notice that after my hard-drive clean-up I must have deleted the saves to the games and I'd have to start over from the beginning. But I don't mind about the first game. The lines between the classes in ME1 were so blurred between the hybrids and specialist that I'm not fussed about that.

But it's when I head to Mass Effect 2 that I have a problem...

previously It didn't matter. I went down the soldier for giggles for my first play-through and then Infiltrator and enjoyed the serious damage out-put that made it kinda fun. (and the blood when I got a headshot was just...AWESOME! XD) but that was a few months back.

Now I find I'm more of a passive, support player in anything I play. I still attack a little. My better examples being a Medic tree in Borderlands, the medic in Bad Company 2 and using the creation/spirit healer tree in dragon age (and Force Mage for a bit more attacking power in dragon age 2). I can't really think of any other examples XD.

But I wasn't sure how that translated into Mass Effect. I did think the Sentinel for awhile but some friends told me it was more of a tank type rather than support/passive.

Any opinions guys? I'm kind of stuck at the moment XD
if worst comes to worst, I'll go Soldier and pick up the LMG in the Collector Ship to copy battlefield XDD

No matter what you do, you'll have more firepower than your teammates. But Technician or Adept are probably the most support-oriented it goes.

I'm pretty much the same as you, my TF2 classes are Medic & Engineer. Self-esteem ahoy!
My Mass Effect class of choice in engineer, as there isn't really any 'support' class as such, but engineer is less active. They use powers like barrier, cryo, AI hacking, incinerate & combat drone. All good for keeping yourself alive and them krogan bastids from attacking you.

Ah nice to have someone else who is like me give their opinion! I played TF2 but my sucky laptop prevents me from playing it recently and I despretly trying to get a proper PC sorted

Thanks for the input. Although from when I played it AI Hacking is kind of useless apart from those few levels where you fight the geth. You fight more Organic enemies this time around.

EDIT: (for those who were wondering XD)
I had a look on the Wikia for Mass Effect and I've currently debating between the Sentinel and Engineer.

I've always had a larger focus on defending rather than offense even when I was a really offensive person I'd want to have a good defence planned (RPG'S wise the armour that provides a good amount of defence)

Now in theory the Sentinel fills the defence role with the tech armour boosting the shields and I could possibly make the shield strength double or triple if coupled with Geth Shield Boost as my bonus talent and with the tech and biotic abilities, it seems to fit in nicely with Flynn's Character in a Role-Playing point of view.

I'm debating if I want to take Engy for the combat drone or not. It can be considered defense as it pulls the threat instantly and such but AI Hacking seems kind of useless as I mentioned unless doing Tali's Mission's, Legion's Mission's and the occasional Heavy Mech...

But even then If I were to go with the Sentinel My Squad would possibly be made of Legion FOR the AI hacking and Combat Drone with Jack or someone else. Possibly Thane for his Shredder Ammo and upgrade that to the Squad version.

Any last second Input is appreciated ^_^
This is going towards helping my with my own Mass Effect fiction which I may or may not write up if I get my own plot going.
