This is a minor spoiler, but whether you are there or not in the game, or have yet to play the game at all, READ THIS OR BE SCREWED OVER.

I am a perfectionist in games like this. I have to do everything right, or it just nags at me. I was doing a lot of side missions lately, and decided to do the main mission where you find the IFF before I did any of the Loyalty missions, or even most of the side missions. DO NOT DO THIS. EVER. Now the game is stuck on rails until it's end. 27 Hours to be screwed. Not fun. Has this happened to anyone else?

It's not stuck on rails really. You might be screwed out of getting a perfect ending yes. But it's not on rails.

This is why you create multiple save files and cycle through saving to a particular one...Learned that lesson rather early playing RPGs.

Yup. Such information is even in manuals of most RPGs.
