So I'm going through Mass Effect 2 on insanity as an Infiltrator. It's going well and I'm getting the hang of it.
I've hit a brick wall though. I'm on the Archangel mission, and towards the end the gunship drops off some troops below you. Garrus' life signs are low by this point, and if he dies you fail.
Now this would be a straightforward battle if Garrus would just sit in the corner. But of course he wants to be in the fight the whole time, and there is NO WAY I can kill them all before Garrus dies. I've tried everything.
Any advice you could give me? :)

Huh. It's been awhile since I played ME2, but every single time I played through the game - even on Insanity - I always remembered Garrus staying put in one area and leaving the CQC'ing to me. At most he'd probably move to the back railing to fight whatever made it into the bottom floor of the building, but he never really put himself in direct danger.

The biggest issue I had here was when I split up with him. Sometimes I take too long and he loses way too much health. How does he put himself in direct danger?

He just sits by the stairs. So he's not in danger of the people below, but they come up the stairs and shoot him, bearing in mind he is on SUCH low health.

Currently I'm also playing ME2 on Insanity as an Engineer.

I remember staying in the same room as Garrus and killing everybody that dared taking a step into it. I also always looked for enemies that were shooting at him and disposed of them as quickly as I could.

I hope this helps... a bit. :)

That's what I'm doing, but Garrus leans over the railing and tries to shoot them before I do. He gets shot at and dies.

What is it that makes him sustain so much damage?

I think he just took a lot of damage in the battle before with the Krogan. He doesn't have very much health to start with and takes a lot of damage on Insanity.

Restart the mission or load a save. At that point Garrus shouldn't be below half health, even on Insanity. I'm guessing you took too long sealing the doors or you didn't leave someone with him.

If you're determined to continue from your current point then camp the top of the stair and draw as much fire as you can. As a last resort you can order your squaddies into close quarters to act as a distraction.

Hmm, that's a good idea. I shall try this.

I agree with Zhukov. You cannot risk Garrus being low on health at all during the final section of that battle. If he is that close to dying after the fight with Garm, the chances of him surviving are incredibly slim on Insanity.

The most crucial part of this mission is the part when you seal the doors, that has to be done fast.
