Well it looks impressive, no doubt about that. Of course the game still has to improve heavily on Mass Effect for me to give it a positive mark.
Though I get the feeling that if you haven't played the original Mass Effect then Mass Effect 2 is going to be a lot less enjoyable. I really hope that isn't true.

Nope, not true. Listen to this podcast. It's an interview with Casey Hudson, one of the more senior designers at Bioware. He says they'll be a conversation after the intro where a character can fill you in on what happened last game. If you've imported a save and give them the wrong info at some point, they'll correct you on it. If it's a new character, this serves as a chance to effectively pick your own canon. If you tell them you saved Ashley, she's there.EClaris said:

Definitely, I think the way they're handling this is fantastic. It could have been an utter mess, but they seem to have made it really clear. When you're picking a character to import, it comes up with a list of viable saves that tell you class, level and all that stuff. Pick a character and it'll come up with a list of the major moments and choices in the first game and what the outcome is. I really love this conversation thing though, being able to create your own canon without having to import a save is brilliant.Volafortis said:
