Mass Effect 2: Why do I want this?

Well, I did it, I re-beat mass effect and I now have a saved file ready for mass effect 2. But as I looked at the second game a little bit, I am starting to get a bit worried. It seems to me like the combat dosen't have the same feel as mass effect 1, and it seems more like gears of war (even though they have somewhat similar fighting stiles). And in the last game, Igot together with Laira and unless someone in the new team comes on to shepered, I don't think I'm going to go after anyone, to nice of a guy to do it. So I need YOUR help. Give me some reasons to keep hope up for this game. I am going to be excited for the story, but if you can tell me a way to ease these problems, or give me a good reason to get the game, that would be great.

It's MASS. EFFECT. 2!

But seriously, I was a little worried about where the story was headed, but after I got over that I became much more excited. I don't think it's so much that the gameplay is different from the first just that it's more refined. It seems they've tried a new direction and for the most part I embrace it. Besides, I have yet to be wronged by Bioware, so I have a feeling it'll be awesome regardless. Everything I've seen thus far supports that, anyways. :)

You get to have a fishtank on your ship, that you can feed. how is that not enough reason.

Yeah the gameplay is different, but how in the hells could that be a bad thing? ME1 had some of the most clunky TPS mechanics ever and lets not go into the Mako, you still have your powers, stuff to upgrade, more stuff to collect, twice the number of recorded dialogue in comparison to ME1 apparently, no more horrid inventory system. Yeah I'm pumped even if the story may be alittle cliche but thats based on what an hour worth of trailer footage (of course they want it to look all dark and badass for television ads THATS WHAT SELLS! Look at Batman)

This.

OT: If you enjoyed the first one, then why not purchase the second?

Unless you are strapped for cash, like me.

Why do you want to be more hyped about it? If you do get it, and you don't like it, you'll be less disappointed than when you were thinking "OMGMASSEFFECT2OMG" when you open the box. And if you do like it, you'll be pleasantly surprised after finding out it's better than you expected.

I don't see what benefit there is to getting hyped up about the game, honestly. The only people who really benefit are the ones selling it.

the fighting style IS different, because they actually teach you everything about the combat, so you get the full experience, and so it wont feel like just something to get through for the story. sure, i felt like that a few times, not all the time though. during the side quests, i didn't want to kill random things, i wanted to get through the side quests. eventually i just stopped doing them, which is unfortunate. the new combat system is set up to keep you wanting more of it, rather than a total revamp to look like Gears.

just think of it like that.

Why? It's better to not be too hyped about a game. That way, if it's not as good as you had hoped, you won't be as let down.

Same principle.

If you actually were hyped about it, then good for you but trying to be hyped is just counter-intuitive.

Also, why would you want to be hyped? Hype has ruined plenty of decent games in the past, and I'm planning to buy it, but trying to avoid reviews/hype for it.

I understand you oppinion, and I shall responsd by saying that hype can make a game better even if it is bad. If you really wanted a good game, then you may put yourself in a dilusion that it is good.
