I?d just like to point out for the 100th time that it was possible to get the good ending with the original endings without the multiplayer (you just had to make all the ?right? choices throughout the entire trilogy).
I completed my first run through with enough War Assets to get the good ending and I hadn?t been near the multiplayer at that point (I was too busy trying to get to the end before the ending was ruined for me!)

Also, apparently you don't have to have Mordin die. Don't ask me how, I can't remember.

If Wrex died on Virmire and his brother Wreav is incharge of the Krogan you can convince Mordin that Wrev will want revenge for the Genophage and that this isn't the time for it. Mordin will sneek out of the Shroud and work on the Crucible

Literally everything from the Citadel DLC. The house party was so good... and you get to take a picture with all the squad members across all 3 games.

That pissed me off as well when i saw the map/computer thing and it turned out to be multi player only and nothing to do with single player. It would have been awesome in single to do missions and able to gain war stuff and the help of areas of the galaxy. I wonder why they allowed that to be seen in single player. Its like when i played Two Worlds 2, looking at the world map and knowing that the big land mass in the centre was unplayable in single player. So disappointing.

Best part of ME trilogy? The characters and the relationships you built up. You had your core group of favorites like Tali, Garuss, Wrex in ME1. Jack, Mordin and Grunt in ME2. Thing was even those that were not your favorite had something that made you like them character wise. Saren was a good enemy who you could understand where he was coming from, also the Reapers were awesome as well.

So yeah the ending sucked. But those relationships still exist and were awesome to the point i would love a game where you play as Jack up to where you meet her in the prison. Or to play as Garuss as Arch Angel taking down the criminals. I truly love these characters and want to know more about them whether via games or books.

Hey, this is a thread for appreciating Mass Effect. Take your bandwagoning elsewhere.

Really, look at it: Mass Effect had a dev cycle of probably about five or six years. ME2 had a dev cycle of about three years. ME3 had a dev cycle of about two years. It's no wonder that it didn't live up to expectations completely, but it's remarkable that it was as good as it was.

Yeah, wrong thread really. I just think the failure of ME3 was down to design choices/restrictions put in place by the suits, rather than a lack of time/resources. But I'll exit the thread now - I'm no ME3 hater, just someone who felt let down by it.

Fair enough, though apparently Bioware had utter creative control (with the possible exception of multiplayer). Personally, I think almost all the stuff that was lacklustre was due to the release date, and no sane game dev would give something of ME3's calibre a two-year development cycle.

It depends on what you consider the good or best ending. Pre-extended cut it was impossible to get the 'breath' scene at the end of Destroy without the multiplayer or iPhone apps to boost your galactic readiness level. There simply wasn't enough War Assets in the game, even if you did a 'perfect' trilogy run.

My favourite part of the trilogy though is from Mass Effect 2. It is Tali's loyalty mission. I have to listen to the line "I got better Shepard...I got you." several times because the voice work is so good.

I'm not sure what you need to do to get it, but I'll tell you where it is: After you wake up from the party, right beside your bed, there's a datapad from Mordin. Assuming he died, he says that he asked his STG friends to give the datapad to you when they had the chance (so apparently sneaking into your room while you're passed out is their chance). Keep listening to it and eventually he starts talking about this job he did for an Asari on Omega. It's hinted at who the Asari is, but it's not confirmed until he says that line.

So I started the final mission, had all the leg work done and was horrified when I got just about the worst ending possible. I realized later that my War Assets were halved because I didn't play multi-player first and this made my score too low to get a decent conclusion.

Then you didn't play with the Extended Cut.

The EC made it so all endings were possible, without playing any multiplayer.

Even without DLC or Multiplayer I maxed out my readiness, meeting the minimum for a good ending should be trivial.

This seems like the appropriate place to ask this. I'm looking some stuff up for a new playthrough and I've seen a few recommendations to bring Ashley along on missions in ME1. Why? From what I remember, squadmates were horrible shots and enemies generally focused on you while ignoring your squadmates, making squadmates really only useful for their powers. Considering Ashley doesn't have any powers, I don't see why you would bring her along. Did someone else have a better experience with the squadmates' shooting than me?

OT: I was surprised by how much I liked EDI in ME3. I laughed more at her dry and dark humor than anything else.

I just try to remember the part in the first one after you defeat the bad guy and it looks like Shepard died but then he triumphantly walks out of the rubble. I think modders should just put that as the ending of ME3 and skip the whole Catalyst part.

Sadly, the good times for me were thinking about the happy ending for Shepard that he never got. Like the part where in the second one if you stayed true to your LI from ME1, Shepard looks longingly at the picture of their love interest. I was so hoping that would be what I felt like at the end of ME3, seeing Shepard be happy again.

Man, all I do is get depressed when I think about the Mass Effect series. I swear, if Bioware released a 10 dollar happy ending mode where it just does the subtitles thing like "Shepard went on to..." like they did at the end of those old comedies like Animal House I would be happy.

If they aren't going to do anything more with Shepard (The only thing I think they could do is an EPILOGUE where if you had your Shepard live we at least get to find out what happened to him), why can't they just tell us they lived happily ever after? Or at least conclusively say they all died like in Hamlet or other tragedies.

Now that I've been able to replay the series I can say that ME is a great series(2 was kind of crap but lets not get into that). There's alot of great moments and the up until the ending was a wholly great experience. The extended cut makes the ending acceptable and I fully recommend replaying it with that.

I don't understand the EC comments when people say it violates art. ME3's story was a collaborative endeavor, people came together to make art, but the ending was made by one man, the equivalent of a group of people carving the thinker and then while they went out to lunch, someone coming back and gluing alien deedly boppers onto it. If anyone was guilty of vandalism, it was casey hudson.

There was one video that always made me laugh; It was of the part in ME1 where you get to lamp Manuel. Maleshep says "Say good night, Manuel" 3 times, each one slowed, followed by the punch and then some LOTR music ending with the Mass Effect animated logo.

I have to disagree, my first runthrough, no multiplayer, picked destroy (the only choice in my eyes) and got the breath scene.

Then again I had just spent three days scanning every planet for everyone who ever lost something, all my team survived the suicide run in ME3 so I got their points for completing there "hello were still here" quests. I cured the Genophage so got the Krogan support (you pick up the Salarian support later anyway) brokered peace between the Geth and Quarians (so I got two fleets there) I even got that bloody reporters full support (10 war assets!) because I didn't punch her in ME2!!! I also own all of the DLC from ME 1 & 2 and you pick up extra War Credit through these; for example the terrorist Balak from the "Bring Down The Sky" DLC is in charge of what is left of the Batarian military in ME3, reason with him and you can add that to your ever increasing list of war assets.

It was possible to get the breath scene (now considered the best ending by many) you just had to have had a near perfect run through, not only ME3, but the whole trilogy!

I think if the ending had been a slideshow with paragraphs about what each squad member went onto after the war with "Don't you forget about me" playing in the background I would have been about the happiest ME fan alive. Joker gets the girl, Shepard's parents get back together, old man Udina gets a pie thrown in his face and the alliance win the big basketball game against the Reapers. Best "Breakfast Club" sequel EVER

HOLY CRAP! You are a hardcore ME player. I had heard that the highest possible score was about 7000 and to get the "breath" scene you needed a score of at least 4000. With 50% galactic readiness you must have had about 8000 war assets. My god. It took me 20 hours to get 4030 which was then halved by the readiness.
