Read this article today, can anyone else confirm this is indeed going to happen?
And If so, I'd like to hear people's opinions on this.
Personally I feel a little sad for Bioware if they really did mean for the ending to end the way it did, but at the same time it was such a punch in the gut, I feel there needs to be a little bit more as far as explanation or an announcement that Commander Shepard is coming back in a new game.
The Escapist covered this earlier today I believe (or maybe it was a similar article). At any rate without any more information, it remains to be seen what is going to happen. I am wary when I see Bioware still trying to defend what was a marketing desician to create the most franchise-friendly ending possible (ie one without any definitive resolution) with artistic integrity. The bottom line is that the ending we received did not match the rest of the series at all, there is no "artistic integrity" at stake here, just complete stupidity on the part of the writing team.
My major concern is that they are going to replace the ending with something just as lame, or half arsed, and then sit there and go "see, we knew we couldn't satisfy the fans" when it's still received badly by the majority of people.
I also confess to some continued concern over Bioware invoking professional reviews in the way of defense. The integrity of professional reviewers has been in question for a while now, and if anything this contreversy proves that this is justified since no reviewer in touch with the gaming public enough to justify this job would have rated this game perfect, or nearly perfect... especially when the ending is not the game's only flaw, just the straw that broke the Camel's back.
Basically if Bioware is going to fix this, they need to re-do the entire thing, or create DLC taking place after the supposed ending, showing this was indoctrination of some sort (as fans believe) but Shepard shrugs it off or something.
