Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer?!

It would have been foolish not to, its the last in the series and people what to keep the experience going. I wish all trilogies worked this way.
Single player for the first two and the third leaving with multiplayer.

I disagree, while at this point I dont think it spells doom I think this is a trend that should fuck right off.....as in "stop getting your filthy multiplayer in my single player!"

it doesnt do anything for the games in question other than give parts of them a lifespan and take away what could go to single player (or to put it another way, sew an extra arm onto a healthy person, except that arm is eventually going to lose circulation and die, becoming a dead rotting fleshy mess)

and as Jim said, are we so friggen ADD that we cant enjoy a good experience more than once? I've replayed the ME series many times, if its good enough then thats replay value in itself,

plus if you were playing a multiplayer mode that wasnt co-op your not actually enjoying the BEST parts of what ME has to offer, also even CO-OP takes your attention away from..well you know the imersion and story

I imagine thats why in Portal 2 singe player and co-op were seperate modes

Fantastic. Shortest development cycle yet. Focusing on making it "the best entry point in the series". And now multiplayer mode.

The developers just aren't going to have enough time to make a satisfactory single player campaign. Dragon Age 2 proved they need time to work the magic, and this is getting crammed even more then that from the looks of it.

I've wanted to play ME multiplayer with my friends for ages now, so this is amazing news. Now when we play together we'll actually be playing together instead of just sitting in the same room.

I think it would be pretty cool to blast my way around the galaxy with a few friends in tow, I'll have to see how this turns out. However......... don't get your shiny new multiplayer experience near my single player campaign you'll make it dirty!

Please for the love of god keep them seperate, oh and I can't believe I'm saying this but take a leaf out of CoD's book and have no impossible grindfest multiplayer achievements, I've worked too hard on the previous two for you guys to ruin it with another 'reach level 50 in mass effect multiplayer achievement'

I'm not really a fan of the series, I didn't even play the second one, since it was too much of a generic cover-based shooter, and I still think it is a bad idea to dilute the series even more.

But what can I expect from people who want to make the last part of a series the 'best entry point' to said series...

ME is an exception because you can take different routes over again, that in its own is a way to add life span to the game. Moral choices don't sit far at all from multiplayer.
Also this is a large company they wouldn't take away work force from the main campaign. Multiplayer in a well polished and created game (not a cash in) would have a separate group working on it.

Also Jim assumes it's the core gamers that are causing dev to make shitty single players with a multiplayer focus, but ofc its the normal average joe, who gets home plays a game for a couple of hours and gets tired with the game after a short while.
These average joes wont be replaying a game.
On top of that the few games that are worth replaying tend to be the ones documented as best ever like silent hill 2 or OoT.

I agree by multiplayer I hope it is still kept separate or is competitive.

The main reason i suggest this trilogies should end with multiplayer is that way no multiplayer for the first 2 meaning a more refined single player experience, and the end you will go QQ I don't want it to end sob. I know I would reach a point in ME3 where I have played it 4 times and go I have seen this scenery so many time and its gotten tiresome but with multiplayer it would keep me enjoying this rich gameplay and world.

I don't see how having a multiplayer function makes it any more diluted from the fact that is "too much of a generic cover-based shooter," if only it would reinforce what you've already stated it is.
I'm not looking for the "best entry point" I'm just excited to be able to play with my friends.

Just as long as the Single Player is good, I'm fine with a multiplayer mode I'll never play. Maybe that's why they took the extra couple of months to finish it.

Just as long as the single player is fine. That's all I care about. I do not care about multiplayer one bit in ME.

Ofc replayability is subjective, and I dont deny that games cant be replayed over and over.
Batman AA kinda proves my point that most games that are replayed over and over a few and far between. Batman apart from being GOTY is extremely different and revolutionary game changing the super hero and stealth genre.
I have agree with jim on almost all his video except from that one, as he was fairly close minded.
You must always remember that gamers who play these games over and over are now a minority group.

Also you said "Ive actually played ME pretty much the same each time" So I interpret that as you did this due to the game play. Something like a multiplayer component could allow players to keep enjoying the game play without having cutscense and chat wheels forced on them.

Honestly, if it's pulled off well, it could be fun. There's a lot of stuff to the Mass Effect gameplay which seems well-suited to multiplayer; provided that Bioware designs it well, it could be fun.

Consider me cautiously optimistic until I hear details.

I'm not convinced. Casey has already stated that he doesn't believe there is a way that multiplayer can be included in ME without the single player being affected. I'm willing to bet that this magazine has added that title so they can boost sales when in reality the magazine probably just discusses the rumours of multiplayer.

Because a game can only have a finite amount of time and money spent on it. As we know Mass Effect 3 already has a relatively short dev cycle compared to the last two and after dragonage 2 Bioware have alot to make up for, be taking away what time and money they have to make something that has never been needed at all in the series can and probably will take away from the quality of the single player

That's exactly what I mean. It is going to be even more of an generic cover-based shooter, instead of the epic, story driven RPG that the series was initially envisioned to be. The story in the second part was crap and I don't expect the third part to deliver even that...

I agree on your second and third points, but Mass Effect 3 is definitely not the shortest development cycle. Mass Effect 2 took just over two years. Mass Effect 3 is taking just over two years. The development cycle for both is pretty much the same.
