Mass Effect 3: Omega DLC (Spoiler Alert)

Ah... meh.

Omega's kind of f**ked right from the word "Go" to me, as Skyrim just dropped Dragonborn, which I knew would be good (I'm still playing Dawnguard, for Christ's sake!), and then, following the news that AC3 wasn't as good as the others (Ever so slightly hard- my only criticism is that I looked like a spaz at the start thanks to the new controls), I got The Da Vinci Disappearance. I'm probably gonna get this in a few weeks, but right now, I've got to go to Skyrim.

It's like Leviathan to me- I've finished the series, why should I buy more stuff? This would've been 800 if it had come out during the Glory Days, but now EA's got their paws on it, 1200 Points? Piss off, EA.

Although credit where it's due- no Liara. Couldn't stand her in the main game.

I think, Ironically, once again this is a bioware thing that was great until the ending. I liked eveything in this DLC until it was over, far too fast, as I was expecting you to have to make a choice, give Omega Back to Aria, and let her continue running it as a hell-hole for the impoverished where anything goes unless you try something that directly affects her (Note: MORINTH, the psychotic ardat Yakshi aria was happy to have kicking about, murdering randomers because she hadn't come for her) Or hand omega over to Nyreen, who would likely have turned it into a bit of a communist state, but at least there wouldn't have been any snu snu murderers running around shagging people to death. But no, Linear ending with very little difference between paragon or renegade, and no real bonus on story, no new squad member, nothing other than a couple of new guns.

I think it wasn't quite worth the money they want for it, and in hindsight it'd be better to buy in a sale, but It's still worth getting, for no reason other than aria's consistant bad-assery and that Nyreen is very likeable as a character.

I didn't hate the Omega DLC but it really lacked punch... at least Leviathan had some really cool moments of Dark Mystery what with the crazy mind control stuff and while Omega had more... heft in terms of gameplay MAN did it not go anywhere interesting.

I'd compare Omega to Overlord in ME2... fun to play but lacking both the emotional and gameplay punch of something like Lair of the Shadowbroker.

Also - where the fuck is Mass Effect 1? I went on PSN yesterday, the release day, and it wasn't there!

I'll check again today - maybe they meant December 4th at five minutes before midnight or something.

Huh... well I cannot say I am suprised by this.

To this day I still cannot help but draw the parallels between ME3 and FFXIII-2, and that's not a compliment. ME1 and ME2, felt like interactive adventures, ME3 (as good as the Rannoch and Tuchanka arcs were), feels more like "fight to get to next cutscene, with some dialogue choices once in a while".

Although you do have to do some exp grinding in FFXIII-2, so I guess there are a few benefits with ME3, that and the story is at least coherrent up until Marauder Shields the Guardian of Narrative Coherence.

I enjoyed it, but there are a few issues:
1) Nyreen is in your party for like...10 minutes total. She's really not around enough for me to feel anything about her.

2) The content is overall really freakin' easy. I was playing as my shotgun infiltrator (it's as close as Mass Effect gets to a backstabbing rogue. Just instead of stealthing behind someone and backstabbing them, you sneak up and blast them in the back), which is pretty OP I admit. And Aria is just a beast. Her Flare ability wrecks shit. It's that "Biotic artillery strike" we've been hearing about. It's fun as hell to use, but it really just makes this whole content a cakewalk.

I can't say much for Nyreen's abilities. She has some shield that she can cast on herself, but it makes her unable to move or shoot. So it's a tanking ability, but the DLC is so easy that tanking is totally unneeded.

However, I did like quite a bit. I like Aria as a character. She's like Mass Effect's version of The Duke of New York (Isaac Hayes' character in Escape from New York). Something about that kind of character is really fun to me. And as OP as she is, her abilities are fun (in addition to Flare, she has a Lash ablity that acts as sort of a Biotic whip. And she has Carnage and Reave). I like how they handle the main villain at the end. I like Omega in general (it just has that 80-early 90's cyberpunk vibe that I like a lot). I like the contrast between Aria and Nyreen. And I like the idea of one of the new enemy types, even if they aren't so intimidating in practice.

On another note, did anyone else level up a ton doing this? On my new playthrough, I started up Omega basically as soon as I could, so I was about level 37 or so when I started. I leveled up at least seven times, maybe more. Seems like they were dishing out a ton of XP.

I wasn't impressed about the DLC, but mostly because it was too isolated. Leviathan and From Ashes introduced characters that greatly expanded on the Mass Effect lore, particularly related to the war effort. Omega just feels like a side quest included just to close some character loose ends; whether you complete it or not, the war is pretty much unchanged. The new character is cool, but ultimately she doesn't go with you, so its rather pointless.

It is not as short as the TC says, though. Even playing on easy and knowing where to go, it took me a couple hours to complete. On the normal playthrough, it was about double that time...

From Ashes isn't particularly worth it given that the mission is similar to others you've played and the character isn't particularly useful. Other than some mildly interesting interactions between the Prothean and others on the ship (Largely Liara who is annoyed that Protheans were just a bunch of dick-bags like everyone else in the galaxy) there is some filling in of a few details of the Prothean extinction event none of which particularly helps fill any gaps in the story you might see.

I've got to disagree with you.

Javik is an amazing companion for a Vanguard, especially coupled with Liara. His Dark Channel power gives every Biotic Charge a chance to do a Biotic combo which means a huge blue boom.

For the interactions part, it gives a whole new look to the Prothean, not the mysterious and wise and calm style they had before. They're just like the current races. And if you take Javik and Liara on the Thessia mission, in the end in the temple, there's a bunch of discussions between the two about the Asari mythology and it's real meaning!

You sound like you looked into Javik more than I did so you might be able to answer this.... Can Javik read? I know that he's a soldier and science isn't really his thing but there were many instances of people mentioning translation being the main roadblock to building the Crucible. Had they of explained that the plans were too complicated and they needed time to develop new technology to build the Crucible then Javik would have been useless to them but as it stands, either Javik can't read or he refuses to help in the way that would be the most beneficial to his goals.

Liara (and many of her race) know the Prothean language, because they have spent years studying it. But the Crucible predates the Protheans. It has been stated that the design for its construction was planted eons before the Protheans. The translation problems are likely with some of those earlier languages...

And Javik knows that their biggest scientists tried to advance the construction of the Crucible but it was prevented by the Reapers, and that it happened generations before he was born. He has stated several times that even when he was a Prothean and knew and enjoyed some of the benefits of its culture, he only knew most of those stuff as if they were legends (to him, the Citadel is akin to Camelot to us), because the reaping lasted for generations and he was born far after the prime of his people. He has lived his life as a soldier... even when he could read the words, he is no scientist, can't read schematics and can't even repair any Prothean technology.

That was one of the most interesting things about the Javik and the Protheans, the rebuttal of that romantic idea of all of them being some highly spiritual, morally advanced and scientifically infallible race, but were actually quite flawed. And it makes sense Javik is not some super genius scientist + engineer + soldier + xenobiologist + liguistic guy. If I take a random modern soldier, chances are he won't be able to build a chair from scratch...

Oh Omega...

How long have I waited for you? Pretty much as soon as I ran into Aria on the Citadel. And how long did you take? A few hours. And then that was only because I hit a few random instant death bugs.

While I didn't hate it, i thought the pricetag was ludicrous. Even more so when you first start the DLC. I'm feeling obliged to put the rest in spoilers so...

Shortly after you arrive, you get to a bunker which is set up like a hub. 'Great!' I thought. 'This kinda indicates that its going to be a meaty DLC. Especially when you have other people there giving you (admittedly pointless) fetch quests.'

Nope. You're there twice, and then without warning, you're on the final mission (only you don't realise it at the time, because its just a long linear quest.)

What I couldn't help thinking throughout the whole thing was that it would have worked a hel of a lot better integrated into the game as one of the Priority Missions. Like one of the major ones, like Tuchanka or Rannoch. It would have been nice to see some greater impact from the choices you make. I know that it wasn't going to happen, what with it being Bioware DLC, but if it had some deeper moral choices included that would have a big imapct on your Galactic readiness (Similar to the Genophage cure, or what you do with the Geth), aside from a lame choice where you either do or dont stop Aria from being a dick, and having her say 'you haven't changed!' like a petulanty brat, or whatever she says for the renegade option.

And yeah, Nyreen was a total waste. I coulda seen her as a kind of Kasumi character. Under certain circumstances, she could join you on the Mormandy, but not have much in the way of dialogue options (like Kasumi in ME2, or, well, all of your companions in ME3)

I dunno, it just lacked the punch that it really could have had. Hell, even Leviathan had an epic conclusion.

And the most jarring thing, why did a character called Oleg Petrovsky have a fucking British accent!? Seriously, none of the voice actors why worked on ME3 could do a Russian one? Come on guys!
