Mass Effect 3 Squad

Amazingly, search bar approved.

How do you think the team in Mass Effect 3 will be chosen? Whole new band of misfits? Some returning characters but mostly new? All returning characters? What would you like to see happen?

I personally would like there to be a limit on the number you can take (10 seems on the excessive side of reasonable), and you can select from anyone still alive from your previous squads, but there are caveats, like Kaiden or Williams not working with you if you pick Lawson or Taylor from Cerberus (unless your influence is hih enough). You could tailor your squad to your specific needs, or to your preferences for characters, or any way you wanted.

I just don't want to have another bunch of faces brought in for the third game. They should be using it to build to a dramatic conclusion, not spend the whole game telling backstories.

(As a side note, if you like my suggestions, who would your ten be, selected from your old squads?)

I'm pretty sure there will be another disaster right at the beginning of ME3 that wipes the old crew, allows for Shephard to be re-classed, and adds new characters. And it will also destroy the Normandy. Again.

That said, I'm fairly certain at least Garrus and Tali will carry over, as well as maybe Miranda/Jacob.

I agree with you though. Hopefully we'll keep the ME2 squad through ME3, as unlikely as that seems.

My crew based on previous members would be:

1) Legion
2) Tali
3) Garrus
4) Jacob
5) Wrex
6) Grunt
7) Mordin (only because of the song he sings)

It's not 10, but I don't particularly like any of the other characters, to be blunt. If I had to make it 10, I'd just build another 3 Legions, as he is by far my favorite character.

I would like to see Garrus make it through to number 3, he's my favorite character thus far in the series... him and Tali.

What I would really love is if they gave you a whole lot of people to choose from but only 5 or 6 slots to fill so you could choose who to bring along and who not to. It would be a one-off permanent choice, while the people you don't choose become important NPC quest-givers, plot-allies that do their own thing, or even enemies.

That would be freakin' awesome.

My squad, if I could choose, would be Tali, Garrus, Ashley, Liara, Miranda, Mordin, and Thane. Oh yeah, and Doctor Chakwas armed with a freakin' scalpel. I would have Wrex but he seems fairly tied down with his clan business.

I hope, for the love of God, that they don't force themselves to come up with a contrived reason for a new squad and the ability to change Shepard's abilities. I have absolutely no problem with the squad I have right now, and really...for the finale of a trilogy, it'd be a damned shame if they decided to introduce us to all new people just for the sake of doing it. I'd rather finish this up with the characters I've learned to know and love.

Giving the importance of the story in Mass Effect 3 I can safely say that the old misfits will make a return one way or another and will probably be squad mates. Going against an army of Reapers with characters you barely know isn't a good move if you ask me and I'm pretty sure Bioware knows that.

I'm pretty sure we'll also see the return of ME1 characters(Specifically Liara, Wrex if you saved him and Ashely or Kaidan) giving that Bioware already established backstories for these characters and most of the ME crowd is familiar with them.

I doubt the story will be centered around your squad like it was in ME2 which hopefully means that leaves room for squaddies that could be potentially dead. Sqaudmates that SHOULD return:
1. Garrus
2. Tali
3. Liara
4. Legion
5. Mordin

Beyond that I am okay with them bringing in new guys. (Not to say I love the rest of the ME2 cast... except Jack...)

I personally would love a female turian squad member in Mass Effect 3. Why? It'd accomplish several things.

Firstly it'd show that female turians actually do exist and the devs didn't just forget. Second, it'd give Garrus a potential love interest/sparring mate and that would be adorable! ("I had reach, she had flexibility...") Thirdly, putting a female turian in the party would give players the opportunity to learn a lot about turians and their culture, and what it's like for women in the Turian Hierarchy.

Hopefully said female turian squadmember will be a love interest, but maybe that's just me. At the very least, the Garrus romance sidequest in ME 2 proves that turian-human relations are viable.

And that way, Commander Shepard will potentially be able to say he's slept with an asari, quarian, and turian! How's that for inter-species relations? :p

I don't think we need any new squad members. We already have enough of them already and I'd rather see even more character development from them rather than introducing us to an all new cast. To me that would be going against the entire purpose of Mass Effect 2. I thought it was supposed to introduce to all these new allies and foes so that when Mass Effect 3 comes around we already know a lot about them. I bet Mass Effect 3 won't introduce us to many new characters or places, but rather expand upon the old ones.

But if they wanted to make an old character into a squad member I'd be fine with that. I'd also make an exception if we got a Hanar party member.

EDIT: I guess I didn't really answer the question. I think we will just rejoin with the old party members. Some of them might not be party members but will still play a key role in the story, hopefully. If Legion and Mordin vanish or only get one minute in the game I'll be pissed.

Though I guess we can assume Thane won't be in it.

As long as Garrus returns again, I'm happy. He's my favourite character in the series.

Haven't played ME2 yet, but the "threequel" is a dangerous thing.

Which is why I bet something zany will happen...like your squad member being yourself (either through cloning or timetraveling)

Throughout the game Shepard A will periodically compliment how smart Shepard B is, whilst Shepard B won't be able to help but remark how devilishly good-looking Shepard A is...

This will lead to new achievements (Me, myself, and I) as well as new romantic interest.

We believe that it is inevitable that Tali and Legion will return, given the new data provided on the socio-political outlook of the Geth.

Still, viable! Not preferable, but viable! If it wasn't something that could be done, there wouldn't even be an option in ME 2 to romance Garrus, or there would be, but it'd be a courtly love kind of thing. And IIRC it isn't.

EDIT- Oh, and I'd also like Brodin (Mordin), Garrus, Tali, and Legion back no matter what. I'm okay with Samara, Miranda, or Grunt leaving, but I'd like Subject Zero to stay mostly because she's cool. Utterly insane, but cool.

You never actually see them "do the deed", you only see Garrus and Shepard share a "lovely" moment and then the screen goes black. We can still assume they had kinky interspecies sex tho.

*Obviously spoilers*

Personally I think Bioware have a hell of a job on their hands if they want to bring back any squad members from Mass Effect 2. Anyone or everyone could have died. That means they'd have to animate and bring back the voice actors for 10 characters (thane will probably have died by that point), on top of old and new squad mates, even though there's a chance none of them are alive and won't be a part of your squad.

I'm not saying it won't happen, I'm just saying I'd be very impressed if it did. They're more lightly to bring back the old squad from Mass Effect 1 (minus Kaiden, Wrex, Ashley, Garrus and Tali...shit, that only leaves Liara) plus a whole load of new ones and have those who survive as NPCs who give out side quests and stuff.

I'd be thrilled if I could march into battle with all my previous squad mates, but at this point I'm doubtful.

On Topic: Who do I want in my group?

-Garrus. Still an awesome character. Possibly my favourite.
-Legion. He easily the strangest of all the team mates, there's a lot of room for character development. Though it could easily be any Geth.
-Grunt/Wrex. Doesn't matter which. Grunt is a more traditional Krogan, but I still love his kill anything attitude and his origin, also he looks a lot better than the other Krogan. Wrex is smarter than Grunt. Plus he also has a tribe on his side, assuming nothing goes wrong. My guess is you won't just be gathering a team in Mass Effect 3. You'll be gathering an army.
-Liara. Personally I have to say I didn't like her all that much in the first game. That being said, from what little I heard of her in Mass Effect 2 is sounds like she's become a force to be reckoned with, someone who's seems sweat and nervous like her old self before she breaks someone neck. Now that I'd like to see.
-Mordin. That guy was fucking hilarious. Plus he was probably one of the most interesting characters. He was logical and ruthless, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's a bad guy. Plus he sings Gilbert and Sullivan and gives cross species sex ed. What's not to like?
-Miranda...Because shes hot.

By now they have a whole mess of possible characters to return... but if you look at it another way what if the player killed everyone off? Wrex... Kaiden/Ash... possibly everyone from ME2.

I hope that they try to include everyone but it's possible that no one is left in a player's game. Unless they specifically state that certain characters survived and will be in ME3 then they'll have to create new characters for the empty slots.

But as for my game? Well maybe squadmates will come and go so you have a nice option every mission but they can fit more people in. Or maybe you'll have a choice between two squadmates only able to add one to your team. Anywho I want Tali back and... someone else... I could deal with whoever else they decide to get rid of. But not Tali. She was my favorite from the first one and now she got even more character development and a romantic plot. God damn them if they get rid of her now.

Not as easy as you think. Legion's frame is unique in design; it runs many more programs simultaneously allowing it to have a networked intelligence level without the additional hardware. A network of one.

Isn't Legion actually something like 1200 different programs, where the average Geth Mobile Platform contains around 100? 'snot really a network of one in that case. Just self-contained.

That said, Legion is by far the best character in ME2, so hopefully he won't be exploded when the SR-2 Normandy bites it.
