I hope they just bring the old cast back. I was fine with most of ME2 being taken up with character introductions, but ME3 should be focused on the resolving everything. Just let me take the characters I know and love.

Oh yeah, my preferences:

1 - Liara
2 - Wrex
3 - Jack
4 - Legion
5 - Mordin
6 - Grunt
7 - Kasumi
8 - Tali
9 - Garrus
0 - Samara

Also, if Cerberus are going to be our enemies, we should have to kill Jacob and/or Miranda at some point.

/EDIT: Just read through the thread. Apparently everyone hates Jack. This makes me sad.
//EDIT: Also, I just realised how old this thread is.

As long as I get Joker *floaty hearts and sparkly music* as my pilot I'm down with whoever else I get. :p

Legion would be awesome you don't get much chance to use him in ME2. Everyone survived in my game because I'm a big completionist.

I liked playing with Miranda and Grunt or Jack and Zaeed in my crew. I wasn't keen on Miranda at first but I warmed up to her. She is the spit of my big sister so I get that vibe from her. Grunt just makes me chuckle when he shouts I! AM! KROGAN!

Zaeed and Jack are also great but I can't see either sticking around. Zaeed reminds me of my late dad alot but I doubt Shep will have the funding to keep him on! hehe.

I forgot to put my preferences in earlier...

My Dirty Dozen:

1. Liara: I just hope they revamp the Adept class. Actually, I hope they do away with the whole "powers don't work until all shields/armor/barriers are down". That really killed the fun of playing an adept. Once you get their defenses down, the enemy is pretty much dead anyway.

2. Kasumi: With on ship conversation this time. Her Shadow Strike is very useful and she could be a cool character.

3. Kal'Reegar: Why? He's voiced by Adam Baldwin (I'm a Chuck fan), he could provide that loyal soldier type that they tried with Jacob but wouldn't be boring, he could give us more than one squad member of the same species so we can get some inter-cultural dynamics, and he was great on Haestrom.

4. Tali: I like Quarians.

5. Wrex: I felt a kinship with him, unlike Grunt (who bored me with his one-dimensionality).

6. Mordin: Everyone loves Mordin, right?

7. Miranda or Jacob: One or the other, because I'd like to have a Cerberus connection to help provide insight into the Illusive Man's dealings. I'd prefer Miranda, but I don't hate Jacob. He just needs more depth and a different skill set.

8. Anderson: He's not too old for this shit. He puts up some good fights in the books. I at least want him on board the ship.

9. Thane: He's a unique type of character compared to the rest of the cast. I like different perspectives

10. Legion: A Geth squad member is too intriguing to pass up.

11. Ashley/Kaiden: My main Shepard didn't romance either, but there are still loose ends that need to be tied up. But they should not be swaps of each other. It was understandable in Mass Effect 2, but they are different characters and should be treated as such if they are going to be a full squad member.

12. Aria: It's speculated that she and Wrex have a history. I have a feeling she can hold her own in a fight, as well.

People I left off:
-Garrus: My Shepard has a kinship with him, for sure. But I want Garrus to be a leader of his own in the game. We spent all of Mass Effect 2 helping him deal with the things that went wrong when he first tried to be a leader. The Shadow Broker files say he has leadership skills that are being squandered while under Shepard's command. I'd like to see him with his own team (and maybe have a moment like in Shaun of the dead, when the two "teams" in it cross paths") and I'd like to have a joint-operation with him.

-Samara: Most of all, I feel she should be done with Shepard. Her duty is finished, she should have other business. Other than that, she could be dead from her loyalty mission.

-Grunt: I didn't like his character. It was too one-note.

-Jack: I would actually still like to have her on the team, just not more than any of the ones I listed. She showed some signs of maturing and seemed to understand what is at stake. I could go either way with her, though.

-Zaeed: I guess he's similar to Grunt, but that's not totally fair (I did say I want Kasumi for the next game, after all). I don't see why he would stick around.

I think that, while it would be nice to have a good number of the old squad, some of them have to be busy with their respective duties. Like Wrex. I love the guy, but the Krogan homeworld will probably need him much more than I will for Reaper battles.

However, I do think that it would be really cool if there were select missions that featured the missing squad member in question. Kinda like the loyalty missions, where they were custom tailored for the squad member whose loyalty was being forged. That would probably create a lot of diversity, and break up the monotany of having only one team (yeah, I did this in the first game, but I randomized the team for each mission in ME2). Plus, it would give a great retrospective view of the previous games, playing with those folks on your side.

I'm hoping we see a combination of old and new. It's pretty much guaranteed that there's going to be at least one new squad member, but that probably won't mean much, given that a couple first mission squad members don't live past the mission. I trust Bioware enough to not only give squad designations to previous NPC characters (Kal'Reeger) , but also to some that we've never even heard of. There's still a chance to have a Batarian squad member (even if half the galaxy hates their guts), much like there was a chance to have a Salarian squad member in the previous game.

My vote?
Jacob
Garrus
Kaidan
Samara
Jack
And Grunt.

The new guy, James Sanders (in the trailer, bioware confirmed he's going to be a party member) seems pretty cool and I hope he's a romance option.

Also, BRING BACK JOKER, BIOWARE PLEASE!!!!!!

1. Mordin
2. Thane
3. Legion
4. Wrex
5. Samara
6. Garrus
7. Liara

The first two are dead in my original save, but I'll probably just replace their "dead spots" with other characters. I didn't really care for them at first, but now that I think about it they've turned out to be my favorite characters on repeat playthroughs. Then again, I didn't use my original save for ME2 either, so it doesn't really matter. Still, I'd rather have important characters dead because I was an idiot in the suicide mission, and if it's not going to be Mordin and Thane then it might as well be Grunt and Garrus. Or Tali.

Well, if my decision mattered, I'd go with:

Ashley - Yes, I chose her. Get over it. Plus, I want to show I've been faithful to her (on my Insanity runthrough. On the others, well Tali was just too cute to ignore.)
Grunt - He likes to kill big things. Reapers are big things.
Jacob - The guy's awesome. Plus, it'd give me a good chance to mediate some differences between Ash and Jacob.
EDI - Who doesn't love a kickass AI?
Sidonis - The guy wants to atone. Who am I to say no?

People I DON'T want on my squad:
Garrus - So he can go back to the Turian people and rally them against the Reapers.
Tali - So she can go back to the Quarians, cease hostillities between them and the Geth, and rally them against the Reapers.
Legion - So he can go back to the Geth, cease hostillities between them and the Quarians, and rally them against the Reapers.
Wrex - So he can get the krogan to ally with each other and kick some Reaper ass.
Chancellor Anderson - So he can bring the full front of the Alliance down on the Reapers
Liara/Samara - So one of them can bring the Asari fury on the Reapers.
Mordin - Salarian Task Group. Reapers. 'nuff said.

No doubt you'll run into all these characters again, whether it's part of the main story or not.

But you'll probably have a maximum character limit, otherwise you'd have like.....14 or 15 characters? and i think that'd be pushing it really :]

Here's my picks (NOTE! Legion, and Thane, in my opinion, were cool, and Mordin was funny, but their not in my picks unfortunately cuz they did not live through the suicide mision.)

1. Garrus (Forged a strong bond in ME1 and ME2, it'd make sense to have the bestest buddies to fight through one final impossible mission together.

2. Miranda (Have to have my LI. Might of been Ashley if she didn't hurt my Shepard's feelings at Horizon)

3. Grunt (Killed a threser maw with him, would be good to have that power with the reapers. BTW it's not Wrex cuz he has a tribe to run.)

4. One, AND ONLY ONE! new squad member.

5. Jacob (Didn't take long for him to trust me, maybe he'll make a good addition to the team.

6. Samara (Super Justicar powers! Go!)

Only 5 teammates survived the suicide mission, so i don't have a full 10

And i do hope they still have Joker and EDI, but mostly Joker

The ones so far confirmed are:

Ashley

Kaidan

Garrus

Liara

Tali

And some new guy named James Sanders.

So basically with the exception of one new guy, it's a regular family reuinion. Here's hoping Wrex becomes a part of it as well. But as it stands it looks like they will almost all be familiar faces.

In addition we know that Mordin, Jack, Wrex and Legion have all been confirmed to be in the game just not neccecarily as squad maters. What role they will play is as of yet unknown.

No word for Miranda, Jacob, Kasumi, Grunt, Thane, Samara or Zaeed yet from what I hear. But still from how it seems, it's looking more and more like we are sticking with beloved established characters, not replacing them with new ones.

I'm hopeful for the future people, Ashley's back, Garrus is back, Wrex is back, Legion is back, Jack is Back, Mordin is back and so are many other people. It's looking good for Mass Effect 3.

If I had personal picks though it would be Ashley, Wrex, Garrus, Jack, Mordin, Grunt, Legion, Samara and Thane. That's my ideal dream team.

That made me grin like the cheshire cat. Those four are bloody awesome.

As for their role, I'm guessing they'll be employed in much the same way as Liara in Lair of the Shadow Broker. That is to say, they temporarily join your squad for the duration of a couple of specific mission, then go about their business. That would make sense, it's a good way to include characters without having to deal with a 16-member squad. It would also help when accommodating the whole anyone-could-be-dead thing.

Here's hoping I to get fight alongside Wrex and Liara one last time.

I'm pretty sure there will be another disaster right at the beginning of ME3 that wipes the old crew, allows for Shephard to be re-classed, and adds new characters. And it will also destroy the Normandy. Again.

That said, I'm fairly certain at least Garrus and Tali will carry over, as well as maybe Miranda/Jacob.
I don't think there'll be another disaster. Shepard being allowed to be re-classed doesn't necessarily have to be explained by the plot every time. I mean, in ME1 it was just a corrupted database, and it's not like RPGs haven't had that kind of mechanic outside the plot before.

As far as I know, ME3 begins with
Shepard on trial on Earth for his actions in Arrival. The Alliance has compounded the Normandy SR2 and is examining it for advanced tech, stripping it apart and modifying it slightly. It definitely gets a new (blue and black) paint job, and I think it'll probably have a few new/different rooms.

Then the Reapers attack and Shepard has to escape to the Normandy.

I think it would be pretty cool if they made it so that your whole crew goes their own ways or at least most of them then like in the beginning of the game they meet back up somehow. Thats just an idea...
It could be like your in battle or on different quests and find each crew member that survived
