Mass Effect 3, what can we expect?

I've been playing Mass Effect 2 for a while, and everytime I finish certain missions I keep wondering, how exactly would they effect the story of Mass Effect 3 when I import one of my Commander Shepards in it?

everytime I read the loading screen telling me decisions I make in Mass Effect 2 have 'dire ramifications' in Mass Effect 3, I always feel weirdly uneasy, presumably because the 3rd game will likely have you go against the Reaper Fleet, which if it's something you'd be doing in-game and not some climatic cutscene doing the work for you, well, it might be fair enough if it involves you taking the Normandy for a real-time ship combat spin, but if you're expected to fight one on foot, well the Human-Reaper Larva was bad enough to me, you know?

And what happens to any of Shepard's squadmates provided their still alive? and if you play the default game, what characters do and don't survive?

Bioware, depending on how big the choices in Mass Effect 3 are, and how many actually have impact, they might have a hard time deciding what the default game would be like, though if Mass Effect 2 is any indication, they might go for a default game plot with the least amount of perks.

What do you think, or want to expect, will come out of Mass Effect 3?

Seeing a Quarian's face! I must know!

Also: More Tali romance. Best romance of any BioWare game ever.

Jerk Shepard will definitely punch a reporter in the face.

edit: I just hope he calls it a disingenuous assertation again. I was like, "what?"

I think you'll have a major choice near the beginning of siding with Cerberus or the Alliance.

There was one part in a mission (I can't remember which one) where you were given the option of uploading some data to the Alliance database instead of taking it back to Cerberus. There were also a few others (and the big obvious one where you could choose to tell the Illusive Man to get fucked), and I think they'll all affect the aforementioned choice.

If he has to he will tear you apart for making this thread.

*Spoilers ahead*
OT: I don't care to speculate. I have two play throughs under my belt and will probably play fully three more times. I thought I had done everything I had to to save the crew but I lost two people and was thoroughly pissed about it. My first playthrough the finale Tali died at the first Door in and my heart actually jumped since Tali is one of my favourite characters.

Those "dire ramifications will have something to do with who died in the final mission, whether or not you
rewrote the geth heretics or blew the heretics up
, who you helped out, etc.

For Mass Effect 3, what I'm hoping for is a better combination of RPG and TPS, meaning the reinstatement of an actual inventory, actual loot, less mission completed screens and more in-game mission completed actions or dialogue.

I'm also expecting it to be epic.

I hope the allies and enemies you've made in the earlier games will come back to aid you or hinder you in the final game for example...

*Spoilers*

The rachni queen from the first game, i choose to let her live, then she says in the second game that the rachni are hiding and waiting for the final fight. So will i get to see a huge rachni force go up against the reapers? Now that id defiantly like to see!

Viconia would like a word with you. Or a mace to the skull, something along those lines.

OT:
This is a discussion of Mass Effect 3, there may or may not be unmarked ME2 spoilers below

My guess? All the party members who survived the second one will appear in some way, though I don't think more than half will stay on as party members. Also, some of your first games companions will return to help finish the fight.

I would guess the first half or so of the game will be similar to Dragon Age: Getting together allies to fight against the impending Reaper invasion of the galaxy. The Krogans, the Citadel races, the Quarians, the Geth, the Rachni (you didn't kill them, right?). And all your previous interactions and solutions to problems will come back, either to perhaps make it easier or harder, or just to offer different ways of going through the game.

What I'd REALLY like is for it to change a lot depending on your renegade/paragon-ness, so people can play through the whole trilogy and see major changes in the third game, making them unique experiences. Though Bioware has said that, like the second game it will be a part of the trilogy, though in many ways it will stand on it's own as its own game, so this probably won't happen.

Also, more Tali, more Garrus, and that chick who got eaten by the Thorian. She was a cutie.

The reapers were the final creation of an impossibly ancient alien race in a war with another impossibly ancient alien race that quickly ended their war, destroyed both alien races, and then continued breeding new enemies to fight and conquer because someone forgot to program a "stop" criteria before letting them loose.

The dark energy buildup is either a galactic version of global warming (utilizing element zero reduces the total mass of the galaxy! oh noes!) which was the central conflict of the war that created reapers or its just an indicator of where they're hanging out, outside the galaxy. In which case, there will be a paragon option to end their existence with diplomacy (shepard: IF U KEEP BUILDING UP UR FLEETS, UR GONNA DESTROY DA REASON U NEED 2 KEEP BUILIN UP UR FLEETS!! Reapers: "generic logic conflict thats destroyed every fictional AI in existence, outside of futurama")

Reapers themselves are constructed from the various races they conquered (duh). They started trying to make a human one because humans are their greatest threat and they operated in a similar fashion back when they were created. (REAPERS ARE OUR PEOPLE! WE CANNOT KILL THEM! *dies*)

Mind you, thats the lamest, most plausible ending to me3 I can think of. If bioware makes something better, huzzah.

We'll either get to see a super large human fleet battle it out with the Reapers. Or see the allies Paragon Shepard made ride in to rescue the Citadel, Return of the King style

This. Also, here's hoping that we see Shephard headbutt a reaper, or atleast a threshar maw.

Oh, and whoever said that it would be similar to dragon age, in the respect that you are recruiting armies and races to help you defeat the reapers, I'm hoping you're right. I would love to see an alliance of Rachni, Geth, Krogans and the Citadel fighting against the reapers. I imagine it would be a bit too epic for my own good.

Spoilers ahoy. Ye have been warned.

I have thought long and hard about this, and I have several things that I'm expecting, storywise anyway. If you don't want to know, stop reading (there's your second warning)

Whoever you left to die is not dead. Kaiden/Ashley will come back, only they will be controlled by the Reapers. Think about it: did we ever find a body? And if Cerberus can bring Shep. back, I'm sure the Reapers could do the same. Moral choice there.

Liara will track down the Shadow Broker, only she will have a moral problem. S.B. will have info on--or will actually be--her "father". Liara will be torn between the revenge she wants, and the fact that she wants to know who her father was (Yes, I know they only have females and you know what I mean).

Most importantly, Shep will not survive the end if you have not played, made the correct choices, and importanted the previous two games. The Reaper Fleet is huge. You will need the Council races for support, which you won't have if you didn't save them, the rachni fleet--again, saved her--both the Quarians and the Geth, which you won't have if you told them to go to war with each other, and finally the Krogan, which won't happen if you didn't spare Wrex. If you don't have ALL of these things, then Shep and the team may stop the Reapers, but Shep will not live through the final battle. Die in some heroic victory gambit or something that could have been prevented if there had been more support.

Well, since I took the paragon route in the final mission that should mean Shepard's allegiance with Cerberus is over now and hopefully I go back to being a Spectre.

I also went the extra mile to stay loyal to Ashley so again hopefully there is a nice resolution to that relationship. Like we see them slowly work around their past issues and reafirm their feelings for one another.

Also Wrex is the leader of Clan Urdnot so I expect he'll be an ally of some degree.

Finally, my whole team lived so I shouldn't have to go and get another team now.... right?

As for the other choices, I reprogrammed the 'Heretic' geth so the Geth as a whole should no longer be an enemy (I also managed to make Tali and Legion get along so that's something). Mordin saved the cure for the Krogan and just generally I think with all the right decisions made than there might be one hell of a chance for a huge, epic, emotional final battle.

This is what I'm expecting anyway.

The number one thing I want to see in ME3?

Ashely wrestling Tali for my affection. Preferably in their underwear. In a sealed and sterile environment, so Tali doesn't die.

Wait, that's a terrible idea. They'll only realize how soft and curvy they are, and then I'll have to settle for that slutty secretary.
