Mass Effect 3: Who WON'T be back??

I guess a lot of them might return for a couple missions, like Liara did in Shadow Broker.
Other than that, I am not sure. I guess Thane, Grunt and Samara has an easy way out of the team, as well as Miranda and Jacob for other reasons. Zaheed and Kasumi are not likely to be back since they are DLC characters. Tali and Garrus will be back since they are fan favorites.
And I would be disappointed if Mordin and Legion doesn't return, at least as NPCs. I really liked those characters...

I reckon Thane won't due to him being dead, but there's room for his son to show up possibly. Also Miranda and Jacob can still be back, if you tell TIM to shove it at the end of ME2 they're both like "yeahh you go Shep!"

I doubt any of the characters from ME2 will be back as playable/main characters, purely for the reason that they can die, so they can't give a major role to them as it would upset the fans who killed them off. Same with any of the ME characters who could have been killed.

As for cameos? I don't doubt there will be cameos for nearly all of them.

I know for a fact Wrex and Ashley will be back. Garrus will be if he survived ME2. I believe Mordin and Legion will be back. If you want to know how I know Gamestop sells a magazine called Gameinformer. They had a whole issue about ME3. When I find my copy will tell you for sure.

Oh I'm sure squadmates of 2 will be back, just not exactly as permanent squadmates. I know Wrex and Legion will join you on certain missions, but from what I've heard, Sanders, Liara, Kaiden/Ashley, and quite possibly Garrus, Mordin, and Tali are permanent fixtures.

Thane is unlikely to be back. We can all agree on that. Grunt is a coin toss... He's a krogan tank-born after all. Samara I find unlikely for some reason, but she is likely to have a major role, being a powerful figure to the asari. Zaeed and Kasumi are highly unlikely, being downloadable and all (but if they do show up, even as uninvolved npcs, I will be so so happy.) Jack will likely be temporary like Wrex and Legion. Jacob and Miranda, I really have no idea.

Honestly, as long as Garrus is permanent and I get to have a tasteful romantic cutscene with him (again), I'll be happy. Killing Kaidan on Virmire was so worth it!

On a side note, what are these "consequences" for finding a different romance partner in ME2? Because, I dated Liara and SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS If you got the Shadow Broker DLC, then by the end of the mission if you take her aboard she shows that she is WELL AWARE you are seeing someone SPOILERS END SPOILERS END SPOILERS END. So, what else could they muster?

I just want to see the return of Liara, Tali, Garrus and Mordin. And maybe Legion. The others I can take or leave - except Jack. I want her to be dead. I really don't like her. And I don't really care too much for Kasumi or Jacob either, but I don't necessarily want them dead, I just don't want them back.

I'd like to point out that although a character may be 'gone' from a squad. Bioware are covering characters through missions. They showed some videos at E3. For example, in one mission, they freed a fertile Krogan princess for Wrex, with the help of Mordin, although neither Wrex nor Mordin were squadmayes. Wrex was in orbit with a fleet, and Mordin was working a console.

Another example was there was a mission to take out a (presumably heratic) geth base, where legion helped you. Again, not a squadmate, but he was in cutscenes and drove some kind of truck (redneck geth?)

I'm sure Tali and Garrus will be back, and Liara is in a few screenshots, so I'm happy. Also, seeing as you're kind of fighting Cerberus in ME3, Jacob and Miranda probably won't be squadmates.

I can't really see Mordin, Thane, Jack, Samara, or Grunt returning, even if they survived the suicide mission, they weren't fleshed out as much and obviously weren't in ME1.

It's probably going to be 3 or 4 old squadmates and the same amount of new ones, and I don't care who as long as I get Liara back.

But Miranda resigned in ME2 if you brought her with to kill the human/reaper hybrid and Bioware said that now that they are making the final game, the story can veer of into radically different paths.

But man, they said that if you were not faithful to your first romance, it would have serious consequences. Liaras gonna be pissed.

I had a scenario thought up about cheating on Liara with Tali a while back

My thoughts on that particular scene went a little sinister. Imagine this scenario:

Liara naturally knows about quarian's weak immune system. Liara expects Tali to die as a result of her relationship with Shepard, she's right. Knowing Shepard (if Paragon) will blame himself, she conveniently (Shadow Broker intel rocks) shows up to "comfort" him in his time of weakness/grief. Shepard is now dependent on Liara on multiple levels, closing off all other potential romances. Gameplaywise, if Liara is not present in Shepard's squad he suffers a major accuracy loss. Depending on dialogue choices, you get a kick-in-the-balls ending with Liara pulling a Morinth on Shepard. Side effect of this is a giant boost in Liara's biotic powers with the added bonus of unfiltered knowledge on the Protheans Shepard got in ME1. Game ends with Liara using her boosted powers/new knowledge combined with her Shadow Broker assets to take over/control the galaxy in a similar way Aria controls Omega.

I want Mordin back but I have a feeling he won't be on the team...

Looks like it'll just be the surviving ME1 team minus Wrex and adding James Vega.

Hmmm, I think Kasumi and Zaeed won't be returning as playable characters because they were DLC, also as many already said Thane will be already dead or dying so no squad slot for him...

Unless something happens to Clan Urdnot, Wrex won't return to the squad due to his responsibilities.

Something like, oh I dunno, maybe the Reapers arriving and wrecking Tuchanka? Wrecking it more, that is.

But I don't really care as long as Legion returns. In my opinion he is the most interesting character just due to his nature and I really want him explored more. The fact he didn't repair himself until he discovered Shepard's armour and cannot account for why ("No data...") is just too damn interesting for me. Plus he's a gamer, can't knock that.

Yeah, I'd like to see a bit more explained about Legion's apparent connection with Shepard.

I hope all characters who aren't Kelly and Tali and Legion would be gone. I hate doing 12+ loyalty quests every playthrough just so everyone remains alive at the end of the game.

Garrus, Tali, Legion (I actually liked him), Mordin (his singing won me over xD), and your love interests from ME1 & ME2 (just for the shear enjoyment of watching them fight :3)

Characters that will most likely return o have a guaranteed spot:
Garrus, Tali, Ashley/Kaiden, and Liara

my guess is that Jacob and Miranda would alternate with Kaiden and Ashley respectively (as in, which ever one is dead, the other would replace them).
