Ok so this isnt about the ending on me3.

So i never played me1. i played me2 back when it came out.

any way should i import my me2 character into me3. whats likely to be the difference if i import or dont import. like my understanding is that its all about choices etc but i cant even remember what i did in me2. so what are like the default choices/companions if you start a new character in me3.

will i not know whats going on if i dont import?

if this makes sense, thanks

I don't know what the default Shepard imports with, decision wise. I know that I would of found Mass Effect 3 fairly boring for the entire duration if not for all the characters that carried over into it. I am sure they are filled with generic NPCs otherwise.

Yeah you wil still know whats going on if you played ME2.

To be fair you could just jump in and play ME3 if you haven't played the previous 2 anyway. It does fill in a lot of backstory.

Your choices in the previous games do not really matter to the overall outcome, the only thing they do is change certain scenes.

It is worth importing your character for the level boost though and you get a few extra resources for the war effort (not the same type of resources as ME2 though so don't panic ... you won't spend days mining planets).

I thought certain characters would be missing if you play ME3 straight away?

Yes. It basically involves just copying the save files from ME2 (usually located in the 'My Documents' folder under your user name) and putting them in the same folder name on the second comp. For further information, please consult your local Google terminal.

As for the previous "Should I?" question about the import, I'd say it doesn't hurt. Story wise it gives you a little more flavour (not sure what the default start in ME3 is, but I remember ME2 assumed all the major 'Bad' choices were done for a new character), but at the very least it'll start you off with some XP and free Paragon/Renegade points, or at least it should. I haven't touched it myself, but an LP on another forum I frequent displayed an imported character starting at the Level it finished ME2 (lv 30 I think it was).

... Hopefully that makes at least a tiny bit of sense, been up for who knows how long at this point.

But not enough to make it matter.

Kasumi and Zaeed won't appear (but that will only change if you had them on your ME2 game anyway).

You won't have a romance sub plot to carry on but can set up another one anyway.

Any other characters that don't appear either don't matter or are replaced with someone else.

Quite literally, nothing you did earlier matters.

Rachni queen, if killed in ME1 is replaced by a Reaper made one. Mordin is replaced by "not Mordin (play it to see). You get a choice between Kaiden and Ash at the start of the game. Wrex is replaced by Wreave and so on.

Doesn't matter what you did, ME3 replaces any plot needed characters anyway.

Those that aren't needed for any plot reasons are just not there but make no difference at all. Some people only have a slight appearance much like Ash/Kaiden in ME2 so losing them doesn't affect anything other than war resources.

And war resources do not matter at all when you can just multiplay your way to glory (so much for multiplayer not affecting single player).

You can screw up your game royally and fix it with 100% in multiplayer and still get the "best" possible outcome.

ME3 can be played as a stand alone because choices do not matter.

I'm not saying that because i'm bitter I actually really enjoyed the game (and I play the multiplayer a hell of a lot after slating it a few months ago). I'm saying that because your choices really don't matter.

Nothing you do affects the outcome, it still all ends the same way.

The only thing your choices change is certain scenes and conversations.

Apart from that the game is pretty solid.

ME3 has 3 defaults
Ash died
Kaiden died
Lots of people died

I'm doing a bare run with the lots of people died option (finished 2 previous runs with imported saves) just to see who is alive/dead in the default.

So far as I can tell Ash/Kaiden is based on your Sheps Gender, and Liara has been death immune so far so she is always alive, only part way through so far but here are the ones I know about.
Garrus Alive
Wrex Dead
Jack Dead
Miranda Alive
Mordin Alive

I'd say if you don't really care one way or the other, you should import anyway. That way you start me3 at the same level you finished me2 on.
